Mobius3590 Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 Hey guys, bought the Hornet a while back and have been trying to get into it over the past few weeks. Recently I've been training 4vs4 BVR Engangements and had trouble locking up specific bandits within a 4 ship flight in a close formation. I tried selecting a specific contact out of the radar contact bulk, but was unsuccessful constantly picking out the exact enemy I wanted to lock up. So I've been wondering: a) how do you guys hande this? b) is there a way to narrow the FOV or zoom the Radar? I know the F16 in BMS has this feature and I know there is a FOV button for the F18 but it doesn't do anything for me with the Radar DDI selected. Greeting, Mobius
Archaic Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 I don't believe the Hornet has an EXP mode similar to the F-16. If it does, awesome, but it's not modeled currently. i7 - 9700k | EVGA 1080Ti | 32 DDR4 RAM | 750w PS | TM Warthog HOTAS/X-55 | Track IR 5 |
Deano87 Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 It does, afaik, but not currently modelled. Will be in future. Svend_Dellepude Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 It's called RAID AFAIK. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Win10 64, Asus Maximus VIII Formula, i5 6600K, Geforce 980 GTX Ti, 32 GB Ram, Samsung EVO SSD.
Beamscanner Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 (edited) "TWS Scan Raid", "One Look Raid" and "EXP" are not the same thing. The F/A-18C has all three. RAID is something else... RAID enhances the doppler processing with in a narrow set of range gates (10 nm display), and performs doppler beam sharpening to resolve closely spaced aircraft which may have looked like a single radar hit in normal search. In TWS Scan Raid, the antenna ±10° in azimuth centered on the L&S designation. One Look Raid is also known as Situational Awareness mode (SAM) and STT Raid. From what I've read, It operates similarly to TWS Scan Raid. EXP does exist under certain circumstances (TWS for sure, but also maybe LTWS with a L&S target). But EXP literally just zooms the display on the L&S designation. It does not change the waveform or signal processing AFAIK Edited January 8, 2019 by Beamscanner

Mobius3590 Posted January 8, 2019 Author Posted January 8, 2019 Thanks for all your answers. But still: Until these features get implemented, how do you guys sort targets in BVR engagements when the enemy is flying in such a close formation? Just select radar blips and hope to catch the right one by chance?

RAID in their various modes would be a game changer in beyond visual range combat.
