We could use much less memory for DCS World if the game was not based on the fact that only HIGH-sized very high-resolution textures must first be read into the memory and VRAM and then converted from there to, for example, a LOW preset, which is three times lower resolution.

My average memory usage is 33,000 MB of physical and paging files in total, so that all my texture presets are LOW, because these high textures are read by the SSD and written into the memory.

Unfortunately, the developers are lazy and do not optimize DCS World and would create LOW - MEDIUM and HIGH separate texture installation packages, so three types, then DCS World would have many more users. Because here, simply, if you don't buy 32 GB of ram in your computer, it won't start, and if you want good performance, you need 64 GB of ram by default.

If, for example, we were to install DCS World with the LOW texture package, we would need three times less SSD storage space and three times less memory, which would open the door to DCS World for the masses because not everyone is rich or an oligarch with a lot of money to pour their money into their computer. Sorry for the wording!

Hi!

Should I completely delete my Pagefile? Now that I have upgraded my CPU RAM from 32Gb to 64Gb.

My current Pagefile is 32Gb's and I only use approximately 40 to 42Gb's of my CPU RAM now. Is the Pagefile still needed for DCS? Or will it just slow it down now? It's on a fast SSD.

No, although I would just set it at "System Managed Size" so it changes as needed rather than how it's set now.

You can delete the pagefile, especially if you have 24GB Vram! Use HWiNFO64 and you can track everything that happens, I also have 64GB Ram and I never reach 40GB even on an online server where 40+ players play!

By the way, I haven't used pagefile since 2018 and I only crashed once, that was because my memory was overclocked, but I still had no problems for years!

I downloaded the size of Ram - Vram and Pagefile from a youtube video, it was made on a 30+ player server and you can see the High texture preset setting on the textures of the cockpit, so don't worry if you turn off the pagefile!

36,694 MB of physical memory is enough here if you don't use pagefile!

Here you can see the gameplay and memory usage: https://youtu.be/S1J1DGlBoC4?t=700

Hi guys,

my DCS game has been crashing every single time almost without fail when i attempt to load a game. Ive been working with @BIGNEWY on how to get this fixed, ive been reading as many threads as possible and have no luck. ive set my page file size for 32gb on my SSD (as shown in the video) mods are removed, MSAA x4 or off, slow repair each time, restart etc etc and NOTHING works.

the one time i did get it to go was when Steam forced itself open and launched the game. Ive messed with this stupid virtual memory menu so many times. make C system managed, make it not, do the same to G, make C 32768mb, make G 32768mb etc etc. no combo of anything works. I have no mods, or anything that should prevent it from working. at this point, Im at a loss for what to do and really hope someone could help me. if any of you have had this issue could you please share what you did?

pics attached show the loading screen just before it crashes every time and the page file setup (one example of)

thanks

also look at unnecessary processes in Windows using memory in the background. perhaps close some of those. my system is quite clean and still uses 10 GB from the start.

Good advice!
Mine uses 3% at startup

I can attest to the importance of a correctly set pagefile. I just purchased the Kola map and tried the Free Flight mission (this is in VR) and it crashed to desktop a few seconds of loading. Caucasus map loaded fine. Tried clean/repair, didn't help. Set preload to 60.000, no go. Then started reading this thread and figured I'd try it out. I have a five year old system with only 16GB of RAM and a Windows managed pagefile on my C-drive. I manually set the pagefile for static min/max 16384/16384 and rebooted. Look at that, worked perfectly, no more crashing and I could fly the entire mission without a hitch! 😀

fyi i have 48 gb ram and 32gb swap and i was still getting DCS crashes due to out of page file so it does require quite a bit.
