steelrfan85 Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 I am new to combat simulators. When AWACS tells me bra 085 for 110 but heading is something else, should I fly to the heading to engage or the bearing on my HUD?
Banzaiib Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 It means that if you turn your plane to heading 085, you'll be heading directly at the bandit, who is 110 miles away. It doesn't mean the bandit is heading toward you, however.
bonesvf103 Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 It means that if you turn your plane to heading 085, you'll be heading directly at the bandit, who is 110 miles away. It doesn't mean the bandit is heading toward you, however. At this point if you lock up the bandit, at the top of the B-Scope above the target you will see a degree value. That is the heading of the bandit. The little line protruding from the radar contact is the bandit's aspect angle. If it's pointing straight down, his aspect angle is 0 (his nose is pointing right at you). If it's straight up, his aspect angle is 180 (his nose is pointed away from you). If it's say, angled to the right at 10 degrees, then his asepct angle is 10 left (he has to turn his head 10 degrees left of his flight path to see your airplane). Etc Etc. Conversely, where the vertical line of the radar lock is in your B-Scope's azimuth tells you what your antenna train angle or angle-off is. So if it's 40 degrees to your left, he is 40 left, and you are turning your head 40 degrees to the left to see the bandit. (which, from the bandit's perspective, means that you have an aspect angle of 40 left) v6, boNes "Also, I would prefer a back seater over the extra gas any day. I was a little confused by it as well whne I first started.
