Listing air/armor/ships/sams etc in DCS

It would be nice if someone could list all hardware in DCS according to time frame so if anyone wants to creat a mission in a particular times scale, they can reference it here. I want to make a mission in the 1960s but I have no idea what unit's in DCS are from that era !!

 

Does my idea have merit ?

A step further would be a unit filter built into the ME to allow you to select eras or exact service dates.

Yep, seems easy enough to have assets available based on the mission date. So, part of the data on each particular asset should include the beginning and ending date of when those assets were operational for each country.

 

Of course, we should have the ability to override this. For example, some may want The Final Countdown to make up part their DCS timeline.

No doubt that's what most people do anyway. Just saying a built in optional filter would be sweet.

I agree, a list would be nice, pehaps improving the encyclopedia would help.The encyclopedia has improved, but it is still hard to know what capabilities certain weapons have. I also have a hard time looking for countries that have a specific asset and usually end up just using Russia vs US as they have almost everything.

The filter would be nice, especially on weapons. It's not even the service dates, you can quickly wiki most things, but it's way more complex than that. Often our modules are very precise serials released in a certain month and year and never completely advertised clearly. They might have had an MLU or be using weapons created (or deprecated) at certain dates and this might include system capabilities also. It's a royal pain to get things straight and often I give up completely because it excludes most modules and units and weapons in some way or another and breaks any chance of stringing together something vaguely realistic because you miss a key plane/mission contributor.

 

 

I'm sure someone could do it by simply updating the Encyclopedia entries text files. But it's a lot of work and I don't imagine anyone jumping to volunteer for it!
