testudine2002 Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 I just want to confirm that we need a JTAC (spotter) to paint the target with the laser for GBU's and mavericks. Is there any way I can laser the target myself from the F-18? If not, what is that called, so I'll know to look for it. I was doing this on the SU-25t I think.

No targeting pod yet, so no independent laser tracking from your platform yet. However, you can use the MAVF in a TOO capacity using TV optics from the MAV seeker. GBUs free fall only as a second option to buddy lasing
kaoqumba Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 Wait for HARM to complete. After the completion of HARM, an aiming pod for F/A18C will be developed.
testudine2002 Posted March 4, 2019 Author Posted March 4, 2019 ok, thanks for the tip on the maverick too system. I missed that. Also, I thought we had the HARM's already. I believe I saw a video of Wags shooting SAMS from like 30 miles away.

QuiGon Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 Just to make this clear: You don't need a JTAC to paint targets for the Hornet. Buddy lasing from another aircraft like the A-10C or AV-8B is also possible. Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
