Sensor of Interest and radar acquisition mode issues

Here is the scenario When in a dog fight if I try to use auto acquisition or vertical scan, the sensor of interest diamond moves from the attack radar on the left DDI to the ampcd (after pressing button for vertical scan). If I have either the SA page or the attack radar on the right and want AACQ, the sensor again changes, but I do not get the AACQ to activate. It is frustrating to have the sensor changing instead of changing the radar lock mode. Is there something I am overlooking here?

Setup 1:

ATTACK Radar : Left DDI

EW Page : Right DDI

SA Page : AMPCD

A/A Mode Selected

Armed

AIM120 selected

Setup 2:

ATTACK Radar : Left DDI

EW Page : AMPCDI

SA Page : Right DDI

A/A Mode Selected

Armed

AIM120 selected

Using A10 Warthog HOTAS

Thanks for any feedback you guys may have. I get that the radar normally goes in the right DDI, but there are times this is cumbersome (glare, etc).

i'd recommend not having attack radar on left ddi. There's a reason real drivers don't, you'll constantly be fighting the system, which wants it on the right, and important information will be obscured by advisories. Sensor select can act a little funny sometimes because it depends on what mode you are in, whether HMD is on, etc. Conceptually you'd think that having the radar on left would probably just switch AAQC to left tap, but since left tap usually selects WACQ, I've got a hunch its screwing with your game. Try radar on right, S/A on AMPCD, stores, RWR, HSI, whatever you want, on left.

fwiw sensor select switch functionality depends on what sensor is currently selected, which AA mode, and whether HMD is on, so it can be difficult to remember/keep track. AACQ should be right tap whether you are in BVR or ACM, so long as radar is on the right. With HMD on, however, if you have an uncaged seeker or if you are in HACQ, AACQ won't work... I don't think.

just a dude who probably doesn't know what he's talking about

As much as I like the map overlay toggle on SA pages, it's a complete PITA to have the SA on the bottom, imo. Not a very intuitive place.

Before SA page I'd have RW on left and RWS on right, but since SA release, I really prefer SA on the left and RW on the bottom. I've even just used the other RWR gauge at times since you can turn the RWR on the SA page as well.

As I understand it, when you're in AA mode pressing sensor control switch forward will put the radar into ACM mode (this is different when using the HMD). Once in ACM mode, sensor control switch will put you into the different acquisition modes instead of controlling which DDI the TDC controls. I'm away from my computer right now though so I could be wrong.
