backspace340 Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 There seems to be an issue with the SA-2 missile guidance - it always misses and always seems to be aiming behind where the target is. It can't hit a target at 10kft flying straight at it - in fact I've never seen it being able to hit anything at all. It looks like the guidance is stuck on proportional navigation all the way to the target, rather than switching to flying at the target once it gets within a certain range like all other missiles do. Track attached of me flying straight at an SA-2 at 10kft on autopilot and two missiles miss me. I then put it in a gentle bank while it shoots two more missiles at me, but they miss too. pepin1234 Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 It is a Russian hardware and F-18 customers should not be shot down easily with a 50s system. Do a research and look for the dates and situations this system use to shoot down the targets for the time and try to simulate the same in the Sim. It is obvious... ECM are not enough simulated but still is a singular situation [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

ECM are not enough simulated but still is a singular situation The SA-2 shot down F-4s in Vietnam - I'm flying in a straight line, sub-sonic at 10kft in an aircraft that's a similar size to an F-4. There's no reason it shouldn't hit - I don't have a jammer switched on and I don't defend/dispense chaff, so ECM shouldn't matter at all. Repeat the same test in an F-86/F-5 if you'd like, you'll see the same result.
pepin1234 Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 It is a system simulated by ED a company own by non Russians persons, they will help you with you complain. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
nighthawk2174 Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 (edited) Yeah backspace340 they can't hit anything really and it kinda sucks. Now irl the SA2 is kinda a piece of crap compared to what came latter but it can still be lethal. The big thing that would fix this issue is the addition of the proxy fuze code that's been in for a couple of months now but hasn't been added to anything yet. The way to think about the SA2 through Sa4 are as big old guided AAA shells stuck on the top of a missile. The point is to get close not to hit the target as missiles have to do right now. edit: https://sites.google.com/site/samsimulator1972/home is a great source to learn more specifically this link to the documentation. Holbeach Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 Passing by SA-2 with mild manoeuvre, site on average, and no P-19. Both kills by proximity fuse. 75% passed clear behind. SAMS started to shoot after passing site. On, excellent and P-19 added, missiles started shooting at long range. All passed clear behind. .. ASUS 2600K 3.8. P8Z68-V. Nealius Posted April 6, 2019 Posted April 6, 2019 SA-2 downed a U-2 flying straight and level at 70,000ft. Granted, it was a 7% launch/hit ratio....they should have no problems taking out a Hornet at 10,000.
