I have updated today(April 10th OpenBeta) According to DCS news, dedicated servers were supposed to be able to run any map(Even if not purchased) in norender mode. I can't seem to get this working and there was nothing in the release notes. Was it not included? If it was, then how is it activated?

"With the release of the dedicated server, the most requested item from clients has been that dedicated servers no longer provide opportunity to purchase maps and asset packs to host missions. We have been listening, and new feature will be brought to you this next week along with the 10th April Open Beta! Dedicated servers with “no-render” option activated will be able to host all DC World maps and asset packs for free! We see DCS World Online as a critical feature of DCS World to move forward, and the ability to run interesting and varied mission servers is a great thing for you, clients, and us."

Navigate to your DCS install and find the bin folder

LShift + Right click in bin folder and press "Open command prompt here"

After doing that paste the following line(s):

DCS_Updater.exe install WWII-ARMOUR

DCS_Updater.exe install NEVADA_terrain

DCS_Updater.exe install NORMANDY_terrain

DCS_Updater.exe install PERSIANGULF_terrain

I may have missed something here. Downloaded the 'free' Persian Gulf terrain for use on my dedicated server. All well and good, thank you ED.

How do I now go about making missions with said map? I can't see how it's done with the dedicated server part and when I start up the 'Ordinary' DCS in order to access the Mission Editor I get a message saying the map isn't authorised, provide a serial number. So I skip that bit and then get 'Persian Gulf will be disabled.

What did I do wrong?

Hi Ron,

Pretty sure the dedicated server is just that - dedicated to serving. My expectation is that you would use the ME on a fully activated DCS install to create a mission or scenario then copy it to your dedicated server install. (Assuming they are on different pc’s).

That's more like it. :)

I do understand what a dedicated server is, I've run enough of them in my time. All I was questioning was the inability to use the terrains within the dedicated server, when it clearly states you can download the maps for use on a dedicated server. I naively expected a barebones terrain, i.e. one with the information but none of the textures.

But enough already. :smilewink:

Question for you Ron. How did you install the PG map? Did you use the technique above by using the command prompt? Do you have it on a.seperate pc?

A little update:

For Win10:

LShift + Right click in bin folder and press "Open PowerShell window here"

Then type:

.\DCS_Updater.exe install <followed by the name of the map>

New maps:

THECHANNEL_terrain

SYRIA_terrain

@VanderWonder how to forbid dedicated server updater from loading all junk maps i`ll never use  and force it to load only those maps that i want.

Is there any way to do this via command line or otherwise?

Thanks!

From another post:

Using DCS_Updater to Uninstall a Specific Module:

In the Command Prompt Windows:

Type: DCS_Updater.exe uninstall <module> (ie DCS_Updater.exe uninstall F-86F )

So I guess use same procedure I described but use uninstall

To find the correct name of the map go to <DCS World>\Mods\terrains then look in the folder of the map you want to install/deinstall for entry.lua. In that file is an entry 'update-id'  that contains the name of the map that you can use in the command as described above.

Thanks for the hint.

My situation though is that i want to prevent dcs autoupdater to install the maps in the first place in order for it to fit to my ssd . its a 120 gb ssd and when i wanted to install server it started to download and unpack all the maps and gave me the message that i dont have anough space to finish install.

i tried to go into installation directory and manually delete the maps during installation process. and when installation finished i started the server. And it began downloading all deleted maps again untill i ran out of ssd space.

That`s the problem i have and i can`t find any way to make it not to install unwanted maps.
