Voyager Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 Trying to figure out the best way to set up the VR hand controls. I'm looking to use a HOTAS for the major flight controls, but want to have a functional click pit for the rest of the minutia, however, after accidentally jettisoning the canopy I've bcome aware that the vr hands pressbuttonsjust by passing through them. Is there a good way to disable that while still keeping the point and click functionality? Also, how does one set up the rift controllers to handle switches that can click multiple ways? Thank you, Harry Voyager
Nagilem Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 I am also fairly new to VR... I went with turning off the controllers and making sure the mouse (I have a trackball on my right when I fly) was available and visible in the VR set. Then I use the mouse primarily to click the cockpit. It does take some getting used to with the various switches and dials as some use left / right mouse button depending on what you want the switch to do, and the zoom wheel for switches. :pilotfly: Specs: I9-9900k; ROG Strix RTX 2080ti; Valve Index HMD; 32GB DDR4 3200 Ram; Samsung 970 EVO 1TB SSD; TM Warthog with pedals, 3 TM MFDs
Harlikwin Posted April 16, 2019 Posted April 16, 2019 Use a mouse not hand controllers New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. Voyager Posted April 16, 2019 Author Posted April 16, 2019 Ok. So which settings need to be set for the mouse to work in cockpit? I've got it working in the game menus, but it does tend to run out of the window.
Svsmokey Posted April 16, 2019 Posted April 16, 2019 Run DCS in fullscreen mode , and the mouse will stay where it belongs :) Also , i recommend using a trackball , as it stays in one place , making it easier to find in VR . 9700k @ stock , Aorus Pro Z390 wifi , 32gb 3200 mhz CL16 , 1tb EVO 970 , MSI RX 6800XT Gaming X TRIO , Seasonic Prime 850w Gold , Coolermaster H500m , Noctua NH-D15S , CH Pro throttle and T50CM2/WarBrD base on Foxxmounts , CH pedals , Reverb G2v2
dburne Posted April 16, 2019 Posted April 16, 2019 You can also assign mouse clicks and scroll to a button on your HOTAS in the UI layer. I use this method with decent results. I look at a switch and the cursor follows my head, then when on the switch do my thing with the stick button assigned. DeltaMike Posted April 16, 2019 Posted April 16, 2019 You eventually get used to the hand controllers, but it takes a LOT of practice. See if you can find a trackball gaming mouse, ie one that has a bunch of programmable buttons (which is really handy for stuff like kneeboard, comms menu and stuff). Which is what I would have done if I weren't so dang stubborn. Ryzen 5600X (stock), GBX570, 32Gb RAM, AMD 6900XT (reference), G2, WInwing Orion HOTAS, T-flight rudder
Fri13 Posted April 16, 2019 Posted April 16, 2019 I keep just the left controller on my left lap, it stays there without problems. And anyways when I need to do something, I don't release grip from the stick but from throttle. You operate the multi-direction elements with the green/blue mode, that you need to do by turning the controller past 12'clock angle. I don't ever go back to trackball or any other mouse, the controllers are just far faster, super intuitive and immersive. The next step is to get the one of the four partners that ED has, that are developing a "hands-free" controllers like gloves etc. Just need to wait those to appear. i7-8700k, 32GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 2x 2080S SLI 8GB, Oculus Rift S. i7-8700k, 16GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 1080Ti 11GB, 27" 4K, 65" HDR 4K.

I've got it working in the game menus, but it does tend to run out of the window. You can also disable the hand controllers, sometimes if those are running the mouse won't. That being said, I've used the Occulus controllers before, with the "laser" fingers, and I made myself do it for like 2 weeks to get used to it. Its doable for sure, but it also got annoying flying with a hand floating in/near the pit, so I started to park them outside the plane. That being said I eventually went back to dual mice since it was generally faster for me. Edited April 16, 2019 by Harlikwin New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog.
