Hello, I understand the module is an early access but is this a problem that is already known. the radar seems a bit buggy or am I making mistakes? here is a video below that I recorded. Basically I cant tell exactly where the target is on the HUD as the target box keeps going left to right dancing around with no range or any information displayed and after a while I lose the lock. Notice in the video, range information displayed only after I blind fire Sparrow.

Here is the youtube video

It's not a bug - you're in LTWS, so the first lock is a 'soft' lock, the target's location is updated whenever the radar sweeps over the targets and sees where they are. Range information isn't currently displayed in LTWS, it appears when you fire because the radar auto-switches to STT when you pull the trigger with an AIM-7.

There seem to be a couple of issues with LTWS - mainly that the target isn't shown at a fixed point in space, but moves around as you move your plane around as though it's fixed to a position on your HUD. But that isn't really what you're describing - what you're seeing is LTWS, and isn't a bug.

that solved my problems, disabling LTWS, thanks a lot, it was frustrating

So, just to be clear-- you can fire an SARH missile with a "soft lock" in ltws?

You cannot, and there's no such thing as a soft lock. There's STT and there's TWS designated L&S targets.

LTWS builds up track information on the displayed targets, and displays that information to you on demand. It does not designate L&S targets, so it cannot be used to guide anything.

Similarly, AIM-7 will only guide on an HSTT+ target (in DCS case, just STT); if launched without STT or STT fails during guidance, the radar will go into FLOOD mode since this provides STT illumination in a wide cone.

The AIM-7 REQUIRES this illumination to guide and will not track anything without it.

You can designate L&S in LTWS. Attempting to fire a sparrow or AMRAAM at it will make it automatically switch to STT or TWS respectively upon launch.

Hello Folks,

Maybe a noob question... So now I'm using LTWS for providing some more SA for a BVR scenario. You are having contacts in your radar screen, you designate/soft-lock them and as GGTharos wrote this mode won't provide L&S capabilities - correct. Now how can I quickly achieve an STT from this point, to be able to successfully guide an AAM to the target? So far the only solution for me was to go to DATA and unbox LTWS which is not really an option from time perspective when you are setting up your attack... Or LTWS is more for SURV/policing and doesn't meant to be used for such situation?

Thanks,

LTWS is really just a display mode. RWS already gets all this info. It's not changing what the radar is actually doing unlike say TWS. Also, yes, it does have "L&S" capability.. that's just the name for a contact designated as basically the primary target; signified by the star HAFU.

But no, you do not need to unbox LTWS to go STT. Just press TDC depress until it is STT'd (for L&S, it will be one press, for a DT2, it will be two - one to make it L&S, another to make it STT, and for an undesignated target it'll be two or three) - or, more efficiently, press sensor control switch right when the TDC is over the contact. Doing this once will put it in STT no matter what.

If you've got AIM-7s selected, then pulling the trigger will auto-transition to STT as Santi said. If you have 120s, you can either TDC depress on the target to enter STT or press Sensor Select Right (AACQ) over them to go into STT.

Guys, You made my day. Thanks a lot!

I couldn't find out this multiple TDC depress stuff myself, mostly it didn't worked for me, now I know why (L&S vs. DT2). Also, AACQ will be my best friend when in hurry :)

You also can shoot 120 while in LTWS and it still tracking all right. I'm not sure if its really tracking from LTWS data or merely switch to visual mode because I always tend to shoot 120 below 10 miles.

LTWS does not have enough energy to guide a missile. It is only showing the history.

AIM-120 visual mode and below 10nm, the missile needs only a few seconds to go pitbull.

After Wags' tutorial on YouTube, you might want to read these posts because you'd probably be confused and have questions :) I think LTWS is still WIP.
