JamesRothwell Posted May 4, 2019 Posted May 4, 2019 Hi folks, I've searched on the forum and the Heatblur manual and can't find the answer. As I understand it you can input a target location into the LANTIRN system whilst on the ground so that when you are approaching the target area the RIO isn't having to scan around trying to locate little dots on the FLIR feed, at 20k feet because of some SAM threats. How do you input these co-ordinates into the LANTIRN? I get the co-ordinates from F10 map of where I want the LANTIRN to point and then once we are in the area I presume QDES brings up the designated stored point?

key_stroked Posted May 4, 2019 Posted May 4, 2019 You do not put coordinates directly into the LANTIRN system. What you can do is slave the LANTIRN to look at waypoints setup as shagrat described.

I think I remember reading about wire tapping into the Datalink? But don't know for sure, so more of an "educated guess". JamesRothwell Posted May 4, 2019 Author Posted May 4, 2019 Ah ok, so if I have Jester enter as waypoint as Surface Target, it should automatically be stored on the LANTIRN? I didn't realise this I thought you had to enter the waypoint information separately directly into the pod system, I'll have a go at this. Sorry, I should have read the handbook a few times to fully understand it.
Eldur Posted May 4, 2019 Posted May 4, 2019 Yes, just go to F10 map for instance, set a markpoint over the target, tell Jester to enter it as ST (or anything else) and then you'll be able to slew the LANTIRN to it with QWP+/- commands. Ideally then you'll try to get an area track, go trigger full action to designate and you'll have QDES set exactly where the pod looked at while you pulled the trigger and you can get back there with the respective command. Don't forget to select area track afterwards or it will fall back into RATES on slewing if you want to correct.
