Deprecate the USS Carl Vinson

Just today I saw several threads where people struggled with the USS Carl Vinson carrier while trying to use it with F/A-18C and F-14B.

 

I realize that, despite the newer model of the USS John C. Stennis being available, the Vinson was left in the game in order not to break older missions, and that is very good thinking.

 

But would it be possible to rename the model, as it is shown in the Mission Editor? Quite simply "USS Carl Vinson (Deprecated)" might already give newcomers enough of a hint that they would pick the Stennis instead, or at least ask questions before they waste hours trying to figure out why the cat shoots them into the sea or why the ICLS just doesn't work.

 

A scheduled deprecation where the model of the Vinson gets removed from DCS at a later date, with an announcement well ahead of time, would also make sense IMO.

Then they'll most probably break compatibility with older missions, and until then new players won't know to stay away from it. Lose-lose-situation, if you ask me. Plus, there's a few names left to choose from for new Nimitz class carriers in DCS. ;)

 

In any case, this is something ED will have to decide; if they're not going to retire it, they probably won't rename it. But on the off chance that they plan to remove it from DCS *and* think it's a good idea to rename it until then, well... that's why I posted this as a wishlist item. :smartass:

It seems easy enough to me to figure this out. You'd have to be in a mission building torpor for a very long time to believe that the Stennis and Vinson are feature-equal.

 

I like having a second carrier that looks sufficiently different.

Would rather them just remove it, and the old F/A-18C model already. And whenever the new standard of carriers is released, remove the Stennis as well. Hopefully the Nimitz module will be a platform upgrade that is both freeware and payware. The default should be set as CVN-68 Nimitz and can switch liveries of CVN's 68-77.

 

Edit: I forgot about the large number lighting on the island for night time. That would require a different model for each CVN. I hope they do all 68-77.
