Hi,

I have a 250gb and a 500gb installed on my system.

The 250gb has the operating system installed (Win 10) and the 500gb is used to intall game data etc.

I want to swap these drives so that the os is on the 500gb.

Can anyone tell me the most painless way of doing this? I have no problem reinstalling win 10 and I'm comfortable to open up the box etc.

Just looking for the easiest way to do it.

Many thanks.

250 gb is pretty tight for DCS if you have all 4 maps, while on the other hand it is more thsn enough for windows, so I suggest keeping them unchanged.

However, if you want to press on, then remember to deactivate those dcs modules that still use StarForce, before reinstalling windows.

If possible, get another drive and backup the contents of the 500 drive. Afterwards, you could clone the 250 drive onto the 500, using a tool like Acronis, so that you keep all your windows settings and current programs.

Once windows is booting from the 500 drive, then format the 250 and recover your games from the backup disk .. hope they will fit.

For work: iMac mid-2010 of 27" - Core i7 870 - 6 GB DDR3 1333 MHz - ATI HD5670 - SSD 256 GB - HDD 2 TB - macOS High Sierra

For Gaming: 34" Monitor - Ryzen 3600 - 32 GB DDR4 2400 - nVidia RTX2080 - SSD 1.25 TB - HDD 10 TB - Win10 Pro - TM HOTAS Cougar

Easiest and fastest way, from having done this sort of thing 100's of times over the years

1. Get acronis backup, install, create a boot disc/USB which ever easiest.

2. Insert CD/USB reboot PC and boot from it, load acronis

3. Use a USB external drive is you have it or if you have another HD on your machine with enough free space, create a disc image of your 250G SSD (set compression to highest)

4. After it finishes, shut down your PC, unplug and swap your old SSD for your new one (use same Sata port), put old SSD on different Sata port than before

5. Load acronis CD/USB again and this time restore your created image to your new SSD

6. Reboot PC go into BIOS and make sure you are boot from correct drive

Great stuff. I will go down the acronis route.

I know 250 is tight for DCS it something I have to do for other stuff I have.

Much appreciated.

But you will lose everything on the 500GB disk.

Acronis can/will mirror your 250GB, and will expand the partition to match the 500GB automatically. But it does overwrite everything on the 500GB drive. So make sure you back that up.
