Hi all,

Upon updating DCS to 2.5.5. My load times for loading into servers has increased massively. Im talking what used to be a 6-8 minute load turning into 30-40+. Its absolutely crazy!?

Version 1.5 of DCS usually launched very quickly and usually took 2-3 minutes to load into a server. Moving up to 2.0 pushed my launch time to a minute about and server loading times to 4-5 minutes. This update has completely ruined me though. I simply can't handle these load times.

My Rig's specs are as follows:

.Intel I5-6500

.RX-480 XFX 8gb edition

.8 gig (4x2) of DDr4 2133 Mhz ram

.MSI-B150 gaming m3 mother board

.7200 RPM WD blue hard drive

The rig itself is 'bout 3 years old and has kept up very nicely. Over the time I've had it no other game has been so adversely affected by updates or time. The system might not be completely Virus free but I don't think that has any relation as it has not affected any other game.

As for my graphics settings I've tested on both max and min with no considerable difference between loads (1-2 min difference). The only dip in performance being when i'm actually in my plane, out of the selection screen.

Most of my loading is spent on the (LOADING) screen and the other thirty odd percent on the selection screen. I don't know if that helps but that's a thing.

I did a bit of analysis into what was actually happening while loading in. On average the CPU Usage stayed at about 30% with ram being 50% (with our without memory cleaner on), GPU usage 0% and disk usage ramping anywhere between 1 mb/s to 102 mb/s (usually on the low side).

Any help I could get would be greatly appreciated.

Wow . First time i've read of someone running 2.5 in mp with 8 gig :) . Most would say 16 is the minimum , with 32 recommended by many . You would also benefit from installing an SSD , and putting DCS and your pagefile on it . I would consider OS on SSD as well .

And welcome to the forums !

Thanks for the quick reply! While more ram is certainly on my checklist of upgrades to buy. I'm still confused as to how a minor update completely ruined my load times! It's just crazy. Another thing to note though while the ram usage stays at a steady 5.2/8. Vram usage is always at 7.9/8 while the GPU usage is 0%. I really don't have the money right now to upgrade so I was hoping there was some other solution out there other than upgrading.

Especially considering how it was only a minor patch that ruined my load times. Performance otherwise is great

And thank you for the welcome! Much appreciated

You could undo the update and revert to the prior version that you were running fine. Use Skatezilla's Utility to revert safely.

Really? Wow, that seems like a great option. I only play on multiplayer though so would it severly limit my server options? What about trying open beta? Maybe that would fix it.

if you have to chose, get a ssd on sale for $49 and put your windows and dcs on it.

The OP said that he cant upgrade at the moment ... but if he could, in my experience it would be more useful in this case to add 8 GB more of RAM rather than purchasing a small SSD.

You can convert to Openbeta with the same Skatezilla's utility (https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=160053) ... but I doubt that it will solve the problem as at the moment the Stable and the Openbeta are more or less on an equal stance.

The slowness that you perceive is most likely paging activity caused by low free RAM conditions .. you really should consider adding more RAM to your PC ... 16 is the real minimum for online play. 8 GB is the minimum for single player only.

DCS 2.5.5 causing extreme load times

1) more ram - will only improve paging.

2) an ssd - will improve overall system performance. load times of all software (including dcs)

- AND will improve paging

it would be a interesting test.

Thank you all for your help. Its much appreciated.

From what what I have learnt my first priority upgrade will be RAM followed by a SSD. as for now I have reverted the version of DCS and learning to enjoy single-player :D

Still, I hope that the next small update might fix my loading issues as 2.5.0 worked pretty flawlessly. It'll save me a bit of money.

I think SSD would help you more than the memory.

Actually, it will make paging much less frequent.

2) an ssd - will improve overall system performance. load times of all software (including dcs)

actually, the SSD will reduce the time that each paging operation requires ... but will not reduce the amount of paging that is going on on a system with low RAM; thus it will alleviate the problem, but do little to actually reduce the amount of paging operations taking place.
