cmbaviator Posted August 6, 2019 Posted August 6, 2019 hi guys, I'm an hardcore simmer from the civil aircraft on Xp11 and p3DV4 but because I can't get over 25 FPS. I decide to put a stop and try DCS which Engine is far superior from the old gen engine used by Xp11 and p3DV4. i've bought the M2000c module 4 years ago but put in on standy by as it was not very complete systeme wise, seems to be nearly completed as of today. I just installed DCS 2.5.X with the NEVADA map + m2kc and just a trainning where you are already airbone on the nevada map and i noticed that i had around 45 FPS: CPu was at 10-15% anf GPU maxed out : 100% with all maxed out setting nearly except for the shadows and on 1440p i tried to lower shadows but it didn't give me more FPS My config: 4790k @4.6 Ghz GTX 1080ti 16Gb RAM SSD Are my FPS normal regarding my PC specs ? what parameters should I decrease to be in the 60 FPS area ? thanks

xoxen Posted August 6, 2019 Posted August 6, 2019 (edited) Hi cmbaviator, I have the same CPU (but at 4,4 GHz) and the same type of GPU, so we should be able to compare. I´m running at a very high resolution of 7680x1440 and with the attached setting I reach appr. 40-45 FPS under the same conditions (Hornet in the air over Nevada). Additionally I´m exporting the DDI´s and AMPCD which cost me around 15 FPS, so I am at 60 FPS without exporting them. I also played around with only one dispay which has 2560x1440. I can reach higher FPS with my settings, 70-75. MSAA is a real FPS killer so I reduced it to 2x instead of 4x and have 1.5 SSAA. I guess your FPS are correct if you have maxed out everything. But to get a decent eye candy it does not necessarily be on max at every aspect. There are a lot of threads in this forum covering which setting does what, e.g. this one https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=234358&highlight=settings+fps+ssaa+msaa Maybe deleting the following folders in the saved games DCS folder could also help, "fxo" and "metashaders2". DCS creates new ones at the next start. Everytime an update is coming up I do this to exclude problems from old fragments inside of these folders. If it helps? It gives at least a good feeling ;) I hope this helps. If you have more detailed questions feel free to ask. Edit: If I know your setting I could adjust mine accordingly and let you know the outcome. If you have a reference mission this would be helpful as well to compare apples with apples. This thread also could be of help to compare the power of your system: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=240131&highlight=benchmark Xoxen Edited August 6, 2019 by xoxen Additional info! BitMaster Posted August 6, 2019 Posted August 6, 2019 Resolution of cockpit displays should not be "every frame", tha kills fps in modern jets with MFD's. I would not enable any lens effect unless you are flying for video production. As long as your GPU is 98-100% you are good with your CPU as it is. I get 60ish lowest and around 80-100 standard, peaks are way above 100fps. Yours seem too low. Try the same flight with different MSAA and SSAA and watch what changes visually and find your sweetspot without sacrificing too many fps. Yurgon Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 (edited) what parameters should I decrease to be in the 60 FPS area ? IMHO the best thing you can do is take some time and figure it out yourself. I've literally just done that this week on a new computer, and so far I'm really happy with my findings. But I wouldn't presume that the same settings will be great for you; maybe they would, maybe they wouldn't. Some general observations: Hit Alt+Enter when you're in the pit. Worst case: DCS run poorer. Best case: you gain something like 10 FPS just because DCS didn't run in Fullscreen before. This is not a permanent change and needs to be done every time. Most of the eye-candy doesn't even have a big impact on FPS. Even with older GFX cards, it's often possible to max most of the options with no real loss of FPS. And your 1080ti is definitely still a great card (I've got a 1070ti and it does a good job). However, some of the options have a big impact on performance. In my recent testing, SSAA had a very big performance impact, with rather moderate visual results. I've had it at 1.5 for a long time, and just now I set it back to Off for that reason. Terrain Object Shadows: The DCS world looks stunningly beautiful with terrain shadows when the sun is low (mornings and evenings). However, "Default" takes a lot of power, and honestly I couldn't tell the difference between "Flat" and "Default" from a visual point of view. I've set them to "Flat". Depth of Field, as far as I know, is a big FPS killer and only really used when people take videos (in some cases, they take cinematic videos with DCS slowed to 50% to get smooth FPS, and later speed the video back up in editing). The cockpit shadows (called "Shadows" in the game's options) tend to be blurry even at the "High" setting. It's possible to edit a .lua file in order to get really crisp shadows. In my testing, that had almost no performance impact while making the cockpits look sooo much better. However, changing the shadows.lua file breaks Multiplayer Integrity Check; if you fly solo or on servers without IC, it doesn't matter, but you'll have to undo these changes in order to be able to join IC protected servers. DCS Updates and DCS Repair would also reset this. Search for "shadows.lua" for guidance and examples around the forum. In any case, long story short: there are quite a few ways to tweak DCS. Over the years, I've had occasional problems where it would run really poorly for me. Sometimes a patch alleviated the problem, and sometimes I took some time to try and find a solution. In most cases, it should be possible to tweak DCS in a way that a player gets much better performance, with better graphics. The cost: taking the time to test it, change stuff, re-test it, over and over and over again. Personally, I don't care if it runs at 30 or 100 FPS, as long as it feels fluid and looks good. Good luck, and let us know how it works for you. Edit: Screenshot of my current options attached Edited August 9, 2019 by Yurgon
