mytai01 Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 I started my Oculus Rift CV1 experience in Windows 7 Pro x64. I recently purchased the Rift S and found out that my rig wouldn't run it unless I installed Windows 10. So, I got Windows 10 Pro and Rift S working and played DCS. I was very disappointed that very noticeable visual warping effects are present while flying around. Do a roll and you'll see it at it's worst. I thought it was the Rift S, so I installed my old Rift CV1 and to my surprise the same warping effects occur in the old Rift CV1 also! So, it turns out that Windows 10 Pro may be the culprit and not Oculus. I confirmed this by using my old Windows 7 install on another drive and the warping effect is definitely only occurring in my Windows 10 Pro and not Windows 7 Pro. If anyone can confirm this also, that would be nice... streakeagle Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 I see warping effects in both the S and the CV1 while loading missions. Otherwise, it looks fine. This did not happen until I upgraded to Windows 10 to support the S. I recently wiped my drive and performed a clean install of Windows 10 rather than keep the mangled mess that was made by upgrading my Windows 7 install. The clean install did not affect the observed warping. But during missions I haven't see that effect at all. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
mytai01 Posted August 9, 2019 Author Posted August 9, 2019 I had to wipe my drive clean to upgrade, also. But, I have noticable warping in game with both headsets. Fortunately, I still have a disk with Win7, so I'm still able to enjoy DCS warp free... mytai01 Posted August 10, 2019 Author Posted August 10, 2019 I guess I should say that I have DCS on Max settings when I have these problems. I'm still trying to figure out if certain settings can be reduced to stop the warping. Goblin Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 This is because ASW doesn’t work on pre Win8. https://developer.oculus.com/blog/asynchronous-spacewarp/ Tl;dr is that ASW, while making the image smoother if the game can’t maintain 90 FPS, means it creates artifacts that present themselves as double image, tearing and warping. in Win 10 you can turn ASW off by pressing Ctrl and KeyPad 1. CTRL+KP1 - Disable ASW and USE ATW CTRL+KP2 - Force apps to 45hz, DISABLE ASW CTRL+KP3 - Force apps to 45hz, ENABLE ASW CTRL+KP4 - Enable ASW to operate automatically Also, no computer will be able to run DCS at the highest graphical settings at 90 FPS.

Rudel_chw Posted August 13, 2019 Posted August 13, 2019 Do you have any documentation that you could cite for this claim? He did ... if you had checked the link, you would have found that Oculus says "Windows 8 or later is required for ASW" For work: iMac mid-2010 of 27" - Core i7 870 - 6 GB DDR3 1333 MHz - ATI HD5670 - SSD 256 GB - HDD 2 TB - macOS High Sierra For Gaming: 34" Monitor - Ryzen 3600 - 32 GB DDR4 2400 - nVidia RTX2080 - SSD 1.25 TB - HDD 10 TB - Win10 Pro - TM HOTAS Cougar Mobile: iPad Pro 12.9" of 256 GB
Goblin Posted August 13, 2019 Posted August 13, 2019 Do you have any documentation that you could cite for this claim? What claim would that be? The Win8 requirement is right there in the link I gave you. The key combos for ASW is pretty much common knowledge and available of you google it. The last claim I made was that no PC would be able to run DCS at the highest graphics settings at 90FPS was not complete. I forgot to mention ”in VR” :) You need to lower your settings in order to achieve 90 FPS, or suffer the artifacts of ASW, until they incorporate ASW2, or turn ASW off and suffer the frame losses. Many users actually prefer turning ASW off. How about some details, like do you have to be in game when you press these buttons or can you do it before you start you PC? ;) Any time the Oculus software is running. You can also use the Oculus Tray Tool, to change your ASW settings.

You don’t know how to google? :smilewink: https://forums.oculusvr.com/community/discussion/50711/what-are-the-keys-for-asw There’s no indicator other than your FPS counter showing you when the game is capped at 45 or not. You do need a keypad/numpad on your keyboard though, and you have to check that num lock isn’t activated. Do you want me to support that claim as well, or may I assume that it is standard keyboard knowledge? ;)
