Feature Request - Maintenance Level Option for units

I had an idea for a maintenance option for units that would change their performance. It could be something like a slider from 0 to 100. 100% would indicate a fresh from the factory unit that works optimally, while decreasing the slider would indicate maintenance issues or age and include effects like decreased radar performance or thrust and increased drag and fuel burn.

This would help us simulate different maintenance conditions for our aircraft, for example an early WWII situation would feature German aircraft at 100%, but a late war mission might see them at 50%. Another example might be setting Iranian F-14's to a low value to simulate the effects of part shortages.

I very much like the idea, but I'm not sure how well that would work out.

To get something similar going you could set semi-random failures in missions you build, so some systems might not work or break eventually.

For ground units it would actually be nice to have some basic payload options to a similar effect, for example to have BMPs not use ATGMs.

Either way, general 'mechanical status' of units, both in the air and on the ground, is a major factor and it would be nice to have a way of introducing it.

.

You can already do this by enabling the piece of code in the .lua files, but as ED would say, still WIP

Yeah, but then people might have a reason to learn emergency procedures...

I'm aware of the random failures, but I think they serve a slightly different purpose. I'd also want this to affect the AI as well as players, which the failures don't. That's part of the reason why I suggested a slider that could just multiply values.

Specific options like disabling a certain type of weapon on a unit would be welcome as well. There are some parts of unit health that would be better modeled by enabling/disabled features than a slider.
