mvsgas Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Wild blue An F-16 Fighting Falcon from the 40th Flight Test Squadron tests a weapon over the Gulf of Mexico Feb. 8. The mission tested the capabilities of the Miniature Air Launch Decoy-Jammer. The Miniature Air Launched Decoy-Jammer is an air-launched programmable craft that duplicates the combat flight profiles and signatures of U.S. and allied aircraft. (U.S. Air Force photo/Staff Sgt. Namenlos Ein Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Mil Mi-14 (“Haze”) crash at 2006/11/05.
mikoyan Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Cool stuff but they should have chosen a easier model to fly; something self stabilizing like a high wing with positive dihedral airplane; that would have save them from crashing that much.
mikoyan Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 The word here is that the pilot and navigator ditched rather than follow orders to bomb their own people. F*ck yeah! Maybe they could not scape to malta like the mirages did; that pretty much shows that the iranian people are tired of living oppressed; lest hope they manage to secure a better future.

No politics here please (although I agree with your sentiments). Incidentally, weren't the pilots that flew to Malta (and another pair that ejected) Libyan rather than Iranian?

mvsgas Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 (edited) Well, something actuates the control surfaces, thus actuators are there. The question is what kind and how do they work? That's the thing, I was watching PBS NOVA when I found this. The trailing edge has a special material that bends. This replaces the control surfaces and the servos. You can go to PBS and watch the whole show. http://video.pbs.org/video/1786635771/ The show tells you how it works Edited February 25, 2011 by mvsgas To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.
