sobek Posted November 14, 2012 Posted November 14, 2012 (edited) Ground resonance. It's when the rotor starts going into a positive feedback loop with the body and the gear. Only way to stop it is to take off, that is why you see the pilot taking off so hastily. Hadn't he done that, the oscillations would have started getting stronger to the point of structural failure of the airframe or rotor system. Edited November 14, 2012 by sobek Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!

Fjordmonkey Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 Ground resonance. It's when the rotor starts going into a positive feedback loop with the body and the gear. Hadn't he done that, the oscillations would have started getting stronger to the point of structural failure of the airframe or rotor system. It's interesting to see how the rotorblades flex when resonance sets in and before the pilot gets the bird off the ground. Easy to see why those forces will destroy a helicopter as well. Regards Fjordmonkey Clustermunitions is just another way of saying that you don't like someone. I used to like people, then people ruined that for me.
