TOViper Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 Guys, how do you do when you don't have any waypoint in the vicinity of a target, that is lased by a JTAC? CCRP? CCIP? DTOS? In the F-5 and F-14 this is very ease, I just drop them, the rest is done by the bomb following the laser. In the F-16 dropping a bomb without having a waypoint (for using CCRP) and not having a LANTIRN with me is not clear to me how I should to best. Sometimes I do CCIP, but for that I have to dive, which I don't like too much. Thanks for any hint! bonesvf103 Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 If you are in the general vicinity of the target area with enough altitude and a target being lazed, you can usually just drop there and the bomb will pick up the laser. If you want to, you can ground designate the target area via the HUD and then do a CCRP/AUTO drop. v6, boNes "Also, I would prefer a back seater over the extra gas any day. Frederf Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 Any delivery that places the weapon in a position to see the laser spot and kinematically arrive is good enough. With enough skill you can pull the wire and throw the bomb out of the window and have it still be effective. Best practices and advice may vary based on situation and a lot of them are going to utilize parts of the avionics currently unavailable to you. One thing you can do is make a steerpoint. Type it in or make a mark point. Another thing you can do is make a pseudosteerpoint by FCR or TGP snowplow. Lastly there are visual deliveries such as CCIP or DTOS or some HMCS AG mode. Visual deliveries require pointing the HUD (or HMCS) at the target but that doesn't mean it has to be like that throughout the attack. Even CCIP all you have to get is pipper on target and hold WR and it will remember that position until release even if the pipper leaves the HUD. DTOS is similar but a little more friendly to use since you can refine the aim after designate and you don't have to actually hold WR to keep the position saved. And lastly visual mark points require at least a brief target within HUD just like DTOS and CCIP. CCRP kills SPI (that even rhymes) so any way you can get SPI on target you can use CCRP. Normal SPI position is steerpoint plus any system deltas (slewing) so if no steerpoint is nearby it's not practical. Snowplow allows placing a temporary steerpoint by fixing the FCR or TGP rigidly to the plane and designate places it wherever and can be the home for such slewing. Perhaps the easiest is to LSS the JTACs laser if TGP is carried and deliver at the tracked spot.
Steph21 Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 I guess you are wondering how to do it in current build, so most of the above won't help as not implemented yet if i'm correct Delayed CCIP is implemented and works fine, you can use it without having to dive like for direct CCIP.
TOViper Posted October 12, 2019 Author Posted October 12, 2019 Thanks guys for all the discussions. I think the fastest way to get rid of bombs is to use CCIP, do just a little dive, and immediately pull up while holding the release button. The bomb then goes away within 2-4 seconds, of course depending on altitude and speed of the aircraft.
