RedX Posted October 23, 2019 Posted October 23, 2019 (edited) I tested vive pro long while ago for a month and my direct suggestion to everyone is that do not buy it, unless the price is somewhere between laughable and ridiculous (very low). Better alternatives have become available in both bang-per-buck and high performance. D0rmicum Posted October 23, 2019 Posted October 23, 2019 Hi Gary Is there a specific reason for going with HTC? Have used a Vive pro with lens mod for a while but these days I wouldn‘t buy a Vive pro anymore for the reasons mentioned by RedX. So main question is: are you using VR for sims only or for other games as well? As the Cosmos is working with SteamVR I see no reasons why it shouldn‘t work and as installation and setup of the Vive pro was straight forward with no bigger issues I expect the same for the Cosmos. Modules and maps: all of them  Specs: ASUS ROG STRIX Z370-I, Intel i7-8086K@4.9GHz, 32GB Corsair Vengance RAM, Nvidia RTX 2080 FE, 2x1 TB Samsung EVO 970 M.2, WIN10 64bit, HP Reverb
mpdugas Posted October 23, 2019 Posted October 23, 2019 Hello all Is anyone using the HTC vive Cosmos VR headsets? If so how do they work issue problems etc I’m looking to buy Either vive pro or cosmos Gary I'm running the Pro and a 1080ti now, with really good results. So, not quite what you asked for. My Pro has high enough HMD screen resolution to read small text now, which is very important in simulators. However, the Cosmos has one really strong attribute, and that is, it has higher resolution HMD screens; if you have a GPU(s) strong enough to push them. Be aware that it also requires a LOT of ambient light to maintain inside-out tracking, as do most such HMDs. Eventually, it will have the ability to run with base-station tracking, which is far better for positional support. Then you can run it in more normal room lighting. That's why I'm waiting to shift from Pro. Read the reviews for additional info. All good VR is pricey; like PC hardware generally, last generation pricing is better, but VR requires good, bleeding-edge gen HMD screen resolution to be effective, unless you are playing made-for-VR action games, which require very little reading. I'm going for Cosmos, wireless headset, Valve Index finger trackers, and two good overclocked 2080tis (like the EVGA 11G-P4-2589-KR) in SLI, so I will be ready when VR Works and LiquidVR become available. In my personal experience, HTC and Valve have high-quality gear and good support. Oculus has Zuck.
Rattler29745 Posted May 20, 2020 Posted May 20, 2020 I am very happy with my Vive Cosmos. Very light and great graphics.
Taz1004 Posted May 20, 2020 Posted May 20, 2020 If you already have Vive or Vive Pro, Valve Index HMD only option is probably the best upgrade. Or Cosmos Elite HMD only if you're on budget. Strength of Vive line is they have best tracking. I have most major headsets and I use Vive line. Linus Tech Tips has all the VR headsets and used Vive... until Valve Index. People who used Oculus CV1 are fed up with sensors and they think Vive sensors are same thing. But they're not. They're much much easier to setup than Oculus CV1. And has no occlusions. Tek Posted May 20, 2020 Posted May 20, 2020 I just got the Elite recently and don't regret it. It is however my first entry into VR so have little to compare it to. Tracking is great, image quality is great, however my gpu is not really powerful enough for DCS VR. Prior to this patch and with lots of tweaking i was getting 30-40 FPS. In other games graphics are great. If i am honest though and all VR headsets were available (XD) i would have bought the index or rift s. Boredom and COVID lockdown make for crazy decisions. Either way, i am very happy with it. Either way, i am very happy with it. You shouldn't regret it over Rift S. But I just checked and Index HMD only is only $499. And Cosmos Elite HMD only is $549. Not sure if they changed the pricing recently but I'd definitely go with Index if you're buying HMD only. Buying full set however, Cosmos Elite would be better option since Index full set is expensive only because of Base Station 2.0 which honestly is not necessary for normal gamers. Relix2k Posted May 20, 2020 Posted May 20, 2020 I have a cosmos and am quite happy with it. The problems with the tracking are almost non existent now and it runs smooth with steam vr. It is comfortable and with good sound and can flip up if you need to see the screen or keyboard. It is a bit more expensive but that is about the only complaint. I have tried the rift S and it is ok, but I have not seen the Index or valve headsets.
Taz1004 Posted May 20, 2020 Posted May 20, 2020 Only complaint I have with Vive and Cosmos is their lens. Why they use cheap fresnel lens on expensive HMD is beyond me. This is why people been swapping the lens with GearVR lens. Better Smoke - Better Trees Caucasus - Better Trees Syria - Better Trees Mariana - Clear Canopy Glass
Brabo Posted June 1, 2020 Posted June 1, 2020 (edited) Alot of talk about lenses but not the display. If you do a lot of night flying the Vive/Vive Pro win hands down (OLED Display) much deeper blacks and richer color over the others such as the Cosmos with the LCD. Flying with LCD at night everything is grey very poor quality. I have both the original Vive (probably 1000 hours of flying on it) and the Cosmos. The Cosmos is a piece of junk that should have never been released - uncomfortable, poor lense sweet spot, very poor tracking, full off light leaks. Just look at the type of display the $6-10K professional headsets are using. Edited June 1, 2020 by Brabo
