Hi All,

Long story short, I already have a VPC MongoosT-50CM2 base that I'm using with a 10CM extension, the 'heavy' springs and the TM F-18 stick. All movement across the axis/gimbal range is smooth and there's no discernible points in the movement where the springs 'start' (i.e when I pull on the stick and compression really starts to take effect).

I bought another 50CM2 base that I thought I'd use with the Virpil's VFX grip and another 10cm extension hoping to somewhat mirror the enjoyment I'm getting out of my first base.

However, after taking delivery last week and setting everything up (including added the 'heavy' springs), I've encountering what I think is a bit of an issue. When moving the stick within about 0.5-1CM aft (and to a lesser degree forward), I keep hitting what I can only describe as a compression 'wall'.

Putting it as simply as I can, it feels like the gimbal is only starting to compress the spring after moving the stick past this 'wall', even though I can both see and feel (by putting my finger in the hole) the tension adjustment screw moving in turn with stick deflection.

Is anyone else coming across this issue?

Cheers!

What cams are you using?

I felt that the space sim cams were smoother than the aviation sim cams, which produced something like what you are describing.

Interesting. I'm using the default cams which I think are the aviation cams? I'll give the space sim cams a shot now and report back

I just tried the aviation 'no centre' cams and they're horrible. there's about 5cm of play/movement in all directions before the gimbal starts 'pushing' back; even when it starts, the travel left is so short that its pretty much indiscernible that its non-linear.

Cams aside, it turns out it may be something to do with the VFX grip and how I naturally hold that stick vs. the TM Warthog/F-18. I swapped out the VFX grip for the TM Warthog and found that the 'wall' I previously mentioned was pretty much gone.

Long story short, must be something to do with how the VFX grip is held compared to others that makes the base/gimbal feel different

8 turn then springs will defo be compressing form the get go, and with the strong ones you will sure as hell get a lot of resistance

Do you also use a warthog / F18 grip? What are you ingame settings?

It might be because "at rest", the gimbal can't perfectly, physically recenter the grip due to its weight distribution. And so the spring would help you during a very short travel to recenter the stick, and sudenly the force would revert. That would feel as the wall you describe.

I had that on my VKB Gunfighter MKII + 20cm curved extension + MCG PRO with 2x50 spring and Cam#10 (soft center). But it was my fault (at least partially), my mount wasn't perfectly lvl, so the grip would rest a little aft. It was really small, something like 2%. But I could really feel that sudden change of tension/tension direction when passing by the gimbal center.
