Landing M2KC on Normandy fields w/o drag chute.

I am not certain how to land M2KC in Normandy short fields without drogue parachute.Wheel brakes provide insufficient force to stop the aircraft , before running out of runway.

My TD speed is between 150-180 knots. GW is aircraft + Magic X2, center tank empty, internal fuel at landing at 800 per tank. So the aircraft is light.

My TD point is about 1/4 length of runway from threshold, at 150-180 knots. I hold the aerobrake attitude to slow down a/c. Air Brakes are OUT. Once fnt gear settles, full pedal brakes. Sadly the aircraft won't slow down, and is still about 50-80 knots at far threshold of runway. Goes into the grass, and keeps going, with wheel brakes braking for all their worth.

I opt for ECLAIR CM instead of chute.

So are Normandy fields just too short for Mirage? Thus requiring chute option, and sacrifice of ECLAIR.

Expeditionary airfields in Normandy, to best of my knowledge don't have arrestor cables, that RW exp. runways do. Aircraft use their emergency hook to snag a wire on far end of runway to prevent runway overrun. It is not a carrier landing, as wires are on far end, with respect to aircraft, of runway. There is a pre-TD flare.

Perhaps there is a method or technique that would stop the aircraft without drag chute?

1- it isn't designed to land on such airstrip.

2- you are too fast.

On short final you should be at 14° AoA, with low fuel around 150-140kt, and slower on touch down after the flare.

You could even be slower with -O- in bottom of AoA bracket ] [ around 15° AoA, but take care to the flare.

Extend air brake immediately on touch down and put nose landing gear down ASAP for maximum wheel brake efficiency.

But no guarantee on Normandy airstrip...

Below 150 knots at landing GW/config, AOA is high and control is low, visibility is almost nill. At 140 knots Mirage , in my hands, is a brick in molasses. Chuck's Guide and docs state that drag chute usage in Mirage is rare, and it is recommended to carry ECLAIR.

I assume that you’re trying to land on one of the concrete runways? Eg evereux. I had no real issues

Read better: speed is only indicative.

This is a fighter, you land it at AoA, speed is a consequence. Depending on weight you will have different speeds for the same AoA.

And if the runway is really short, the braking chute becomes mandatory.

I don't know if you're doing it: you can rise your seat in the cockpit. Do it until you see the tip of Pitot tube. It will help for visibility.
