Aren't you mixing up two names there? Or have I missed a fitting option somehow? :D

There's the “GB-6” series, which is apparently a rebranding of the TL-500 PGM.

Then there's the LS-6-500, which basically seems to be a guidance kit (the LS-6 part) fitted to a regular 500kg bomb (the -500 bit).

Ah, then it seems to be a different name for the TG-500 / Boötes 500 (but don't quote me on that).

Glacier;4133754']If I'm reading correctly' date=' they're semi-active laser-guided bombs. Does that we mark the target until they go "pitbull" and then we can pull off?[/quote']

semi-active implies the active designator is not on the ordnance, like the AIM-7 is a semi-active radar guided missile.

if the bomb could go pitbull, it would be an active laser guided bomb similar to how and AIM-120 or SD-10 is active radar guided.

Glacier;4135648']Doesn't that makes it pretty much the same as the GBU-12 then?

It does. Like others have said, it needs outside laser designation to track, and does not go pitbull or anything. Generally speaking:

- Weapon requires constant painting of target by launch platform or other friendlies = semi-active

- Weapon relies on emissions made by target = passive

- Weapon emits its own signals to track a target = active

- Weapon tries to remain inside a beam emitted by the launch platform = beam riding

- Weapon is steered by commands transmitted either through a wire or a signal = command guidance

This makes laser guided boms, and most of the laser guided missiles semi-active weapons.
