[VFA-106] Glacier Posted January 22, 2020 Posted January 22, 2020 You can use...ATA (auto target acquisition) to lock the target in the display... Talk to me about this please. Is it a HOTAS control? How does it know what the target is? When controlling two MitL missles, I've switched back and forth, and they've remained aiming pretty much where I left them, so how does this ATA improve that?
AeriaGloria Posted January 22, 2020 Posted January 22, 2020 (edited) ATA is just a contrast lock, you use the middle top OSB U3. It will say MAN when not in ATA mode. If you lock a plane it’s hilarious watching the missile make multiple passes until it hits Edited January 22, 2020 by AeriaGloria Black Shark Den Squadron Member: We are open to new recruits, click here to check us out or apply to join! https://blacksharkden.com
GrEaSeLiTeNiN Posted January 23, 2020 Posted January 23, 2020 It's able to hit big planes in ATA but tends to fly over smaller ones. They probably need to fine tune it. Not sure if the same would happen with target designate. shaHeen-1 Posted January 23, 2020 Posted January 23, 2020 By planes you mean parked ones or flying ones?
AeriaGloria Posted January 23, 2020 Posted January 23, 2020 It will totally go after flying ones. The instant action mission is the perfect practice since they take off in the opposite direction of you so the missile can do a tail chase Black Shark Den Squadron Member: We are open to new recruits, click here to check us out or apply to join! https://blacksharkden.com
shaHeen-1 Posted January 23, 2020 Posted January 23, 2020 Is it smart enough to lead trail or just lags?
AeriaGloria Posted January 23, 2020 Posted January 23, 2020 (edited) Only pure pursuit. So it pretty much has to be perfectly head on or tail unless you take it out of ATA into MAN and do the lead manually. But still in the right situation I bet people won’t be expecting it, you could probably get a helicopter or something landing/takeoff all aspect. I’ve also been wondering if we can use it as a TALD, since it has a nice signature and has longer range then the AK to loiter around in circles for the enemy to chase. Might be worth it some time. This is going to be a huge advantage with the AKG pod because you can have one pod guide two missiles at a time. Someone in the front lines can fire the missile and someone behind them with the pod can guide them. If their AWACS is in contrail zone, it’s a pretty easy target to find..... shaHeen-1 Posted January 23, 2020 Posted January 23, 2020 Wait.... You can guide other jeff's missiles? I didn't even think of that.
AeriaGloria Posted January 23, 2020 Posted January 23, 2020 Probably the only time one person won’t need the datalink pod. You have a limit of two missiles, but the point of AKG is a decapitation strike anyways Black Shark Den Squadron Member: We are open to new recruits, click here to check us out or apply to join! https://blacksharkden.com
shaHeen-1 Posted January 23, 2020 Posted January 23, 2020 I'd guess you can guide as many as desired as long as you space them out such that first two are dead by the time next to go active.
antiload Posted April 11, 2020 Posted April 11, 2020 The missile is as stated a mess, i'd like to echo that it would be great to have a DIR to PP option so that one does not have to steer the thing (which is bloody difficult).

A mess? You’re suppossed to use the pod, it’s not magic, it only has INS not GPS Black Shark Den Squadron Member: We are open to new recruits, click here to check us out or apply to join! https://blacksharkden.com
foxwxl Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 It's bloody difficult without a joystick Best to control through joystick or gamepad, axis will be preferred. Deka Ironwork Tester Team
shaHeen-1 Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 What I ended up doing was--since I have three modifiers keys super close to each other on my throttle--I put a double Modifier on my joystick and bound that to TDC. I put it behind two modifiers since I use those modifiers individually for other tasks and found myself triggering the TDC if I happened to press the Modifier while maneuvering particularly when launched on/beaming. The double Modifier which I can press with one finger makes sure that I'm only moving TDC when I mean to with the joystick.
Schmidtfire Posted April 12, 2020 Author Posted April 12, 2020 Anyone knows if 802AKG works in multiplayer? Tried it yesterday but it was de-synced with the other clients. My friend said that my missile hit a hill on his computer but I was still tracking and flying fine on my end  Tried 4 missiles and they were all de-synced between shooters computer and the other clinets on the server.
