Anyone find the SD-10 in maddog mode (just fire at target without radar bug/lock) is very effective? In visual range (labels on), I actually don't need ACM or radar lock with the SD-10 as I almost always get a hit.

I heard here when Tomcat drivers would be too close and couldn’t get a lock that they were taught to just mad dog abort and let the Phoenix do its magic.

I don’t know if the scanning of radars on missiles is simulated, I’m pretty sure in the LUA file it’s just a time to acquire. Hopefully the new missile guidance API will add a lot of depth to it, with correct lofting, control of the target size selection and midcourse updates it will be a whole new game. Also, it will be interesting to see what new max pitbull range will be for each missile when the guidance API is out and the missile adapted to it

Not to mention the change in effectiveness if the new API allows it to separately fire its boost and sustain stage using sustain as a terminal boost just like the real missile. That will be crazy

In close range yes but I found its no different with the AIM-120.

If U are tally a bandit that is not currently running away with 600kn+(not with the help of label on) , SD10/120/R77 should all be very effective.
