Hello all!

I have a question about the APU of the KA-50:

Where are control switchs, and monitoring gauges of the APU? In the video "Start procedure", there is no APU starting procedure... Electrical ingnition, pneumatic ignition, or god ignition? :chair:

Thanks a lot guys!

Sorry for my poor english... :helpsmilie:

There is a monitoring gauge for it, but it isn't on that screenshot. The startup video you saw was before the APU was implemented :)

APU engine gauges and indication lights are located on the left side aft of the fuel cut off levers and rotor brake.

The gauge below the engine RPM is the fuel gauge.

Ok! I will re-watching the startup procedure video, and i'll try found this gauge! :D

Thanks a lot for all this nice informations. :)

I think it's this gauge for APU monitoring:

Right or wrong (on the left side, sorry for the poor quality, screenshot from the Startup video...)? :smartass: This is RPM indicator? EGT? Oil pressure? Voltage? Other?

And about this other screenshot? ---->

Thanks Yellonet! S!

The APU gauge is an EGT gauge and the indication lights are: oil pressure, auto-shutdown due to overspeed, APU fuel shutoff valve is open, and APU normal operation light.

The gauge in the 2nd pic is the rotor pitch gauge.

The gauge in the last pic I'm not sure about.

The RPM indicator at the second screenshot for me is the most important instrument on any helicopter- rotor RPM :) The gauge on the right of the clock is the collective pitch indicator in degrees.

The gauge you refer at the last screenshot is DC voltmeter (28V DC).

An other question, why, on the electrical system schematic, there is no APU Generator? http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/img/technology/HelModelDesc_Electrics_En.html

How APU provide electrical power?

What is IFF? Hot Battery BUS (permanentely energized)?

There is no APU dedicated generator on Ka-50. Unless ground power is applied, AC bus is connected to DC via POS-500B inverter.

IFF - Identification of Friend or Foe (not implemented in Ka-50 yet).

DC bus is powered by batteries only if both VU-6B rectifiers go offline.

Can you ground start it without an External Power Unit then? It would be interesting to see the electrical system design or its representation on the MFD if displayed?

Ok Olgerd. :D

APU provide only pneumatic power? Maybe Hydraulic power? But no electric power?

If there are no external electrical power (AC or DC) and if engine aren't running, only the batteries energize the Ka-50?

Uh, what are you doing, fishing to replicate this functionality in EECH or something? ;)

No! lol

I just wanna understand how Electrical system operated... I have too many questions, but very difficult to answer. :smartass:

1) To start helicopter? Yes you can. Engines need only APU and DC power, and APU in it's turn needs only DC power (batteries). And of course both need fuel. :)

2) No, it is not displayed on ABRIS. ABRIS is not designed specially for Ka-50, and has only few changes specially for the helicopter.

APU itself provides only pheumatic power. To get hydraulics and generators running without main engines started, APU bleed air is fed to the dedicated 'turbodrive'. This device can be run only on ground, and needs some assistance from ground personell to be started (is mechanically switched in one of access doors, and then started from the cockpit).

Thank you Olger. Can we use the turbodrive in DCS? :)

Yes.
