grant977 Posted January 31, 2020 Posted January 31, 2020 Was the radio altimeter really off by a 100ft or so over water? Deep vs shallow water?
IronMike Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 Was the radio altimeter really off by a 100ft or so over water? Deep vs shallow water? Indeed, and not always an exact number, but for example over shallow water it is much more accurate than over deep water. grant977 Posted February 3, 2020 Author Posted February 3, 2020 Oh ya I noticed that. Damn near went swimming one dark night.
Yurgon Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 Oh? Huh. I always assumed I'd screwed up my QNH when radar and baro altimeter didn't match near the boat. Good to know, thanks for the question and the answer !
JUICE-AWG Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 What's the Regulations say about over-water flights at night? "There are only two types of aircraft, Fighters and Targets." Doyle "Wahoo" Nicholson [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
IronMike Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 What's the Regulations say about over-water flights at night? In the current Navy? No idea. But the radalt can be cross checked with the normal altimeter ofc and if the depth and thus deviation is known I would assume it is prebriefed. grant977 Posted February 4, 2020 Author Posted February 4, 2020 It’s about 100ft off to the positive side. To be weary when it’s says 100 over open water.
