Triggerhappy69 Posted July 31, 2009 Author Posted July 31, 2009 Are you going to use soft rubber buttons on the front for the Abris or hard plastic ones? Resin would allow you shape them any way you wanted. I am curious how you plan to finish them. Most likely I'll be making them in some kind of resin.. I have no eperience with molding soft plastic.. I was thinking in line of making a small form, and pouring colored epoxy glue arround a small LED. So that I can get that soft inner glow from the "V" shape in the buttons. The frame I've just buildt up from layers of 4mm plastic sheet, and added a thin high-gloss sheet on top to get the right look. Those "foamy" plastic sheets are just brilliant for stuff like this, because they are easy to cut and sand. Maybe I'll post some pictures tomorrow, but now it's bedtime .. G'nite guys..;) "But (504)Brewber said they were'nt friendly.. So I took'em out.!" [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Schwinn Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 (edited) As promised Trigger here is the new breakout board I have designed using DB9 male and female connectors. Total cost to build was about 15.00 Canadian. I used a thin piece of MDF 1/4" and drilled 12 3/4" holes in it. Here are a few pics of the DB9 connectors mounted. I put the female from one side and the male from the other side. I then soldered a jumper around one side of the connectors on the board (only done two atm) I also soldered a cable from row one and column one on the BU0836 to row one and column one on the breakout board. So the basic result is one wire going into the board from the back and 9 possible connections on the front of the adapter(could do more if it is needed by using DB25 connectors.) If you want me to transfer this to another thread I would be happy as to not distract from your thread Trigger =) Edit: Some pics of it almost completed. You can see the diodes ready to accept the switch wire. Edited July 31, 2009 by Schwinn

wasp1 Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 (edited) Trigger, you're killing me... If having sufficient space is the issue, weatherize that enclosure, and hang it off of that elevated deck you had in an earlier picture... :D Kind of similar to what this guy did with a mech pit inside his garage (but less gaudy): http://www.simpits.org/forum/index.php?t=msg&th=144&start=0&S=53f644c8a9ffbe22d1070568242eb254 I bet your RC Helicopter flying neighbor would love it! ;) And just think, eventually, you could have a KA-50, an A-10, a AH-64 and ... all hanging off your deck. :pilotfly: WOW i love reading about my simpit on other sites [ gaudy YES] and its not in my garage its in my company shop , i own a special effects company and its part of the break room for my emploees .. and my clients love it !! and yes my wife loves the idea , and the attached movie room [ sci-fi themed also ] the pit only takes up a small amount of room , 14ft tall and 8ft wide . [still setting up the 4 "OS"] for the pit . if there is any intrest , i'll post the cockpit pic .[ in diffrent post]. thanx this post made me lol Edited July 31, 2009 by wasp1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

I forgot about that being the shop. I can see why the clients love it. I think it's a trip! I actually have a lot more time playing MechWarrior than I do flight sims, so the mech pit definitely caught my eye when scoping out those forums. Maybe some day we'll have a mech game with 6 degree of freedom, 3D click-able pits... Oh BTW, "gaudy" is a relative term. The aircraft sim pits usually tend to be painted a bit less flamboyantly (and we all know how conservative that Triigger is :megalol: ) ... on that mech pit, it works! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] There's no place like 127.0.0.1

Alex_rcpilot Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 This is for you my friend.! :megalol:Thanks, now I've seen 'em. Dude that's a fine drawing. How are you gonna fabricate this panel, especially with the angle between the top part and side part?
londo-cat Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 Trigger... seriously - where do you *GET* the time to do all this. Just reading your advancements on the pit make my head spin! Thanks for uploading the specs on the panel sir!
londo-cat Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 I am starting to feel the need for some more switches to play with. So here I go..! Yes! I'm building this tomorrow! Thank you Trigger! :pilotfly:
stelios2000 Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 sorry for disturbing you again....yesterday it was my FIRST day that i run the BS. Yes .....i had it in preorder(English DVD) it was delivered to me months now but only yesterday i run it just to see some of the training videos. I have almost complete the wooden skeleton of my pit and i was trying to place the pots when i saw the videos. I realised that some levers dont need pots. Or am i wrong ? please look the photo and tell me.... Does 1&2 want pots or just an ON/OFF switch(with a spring) ? I saw that the 3 want ON/OFF switch only. How about 4 ??? I saw that it goes for 3 different positions... the one that posses and other 3. So it wants a (3+1=) 4-way linear switch ? pity i thought pots would be better. thanks in advance Ps so pots take only the centrall Joystic and the rudders right ?
Schwinn Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 I am going to use micro switches for all those one above the shaft one below the shaft. So if you pull up on a lever you trigger the increase command and if you push down on a lever you trigger the decrease command.
