Avimimus Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 I got to thinking about how enjoyable the past polls have been and was tempted to start another one. I don't want to leave out the Uh-60 again so I think it is good to have a discussion about poll options before actually posting one. Thus, I introduce the speculative poll thread. Restricting to aircraft of the approximate era, letting ED choose the specific variants, (and leaving out transports and bombers) these are the options that I can think of: Light strike aircraft: Non Anglo (note: Sepecat is also English) - Su-17/Su-22 - Mig-27 - Jaguar - G91 - Mirage F1 - IAR-93/J-22 Anglo: - A6 - F-5 - Harrier (GR. Mk3?) - Jaguar - AV-8B - Predator UAV Strike aircraft: - Su-24 - Su-30 - Tornado IDS - AC-130 - F-15E - F-111 Interceptors: - Mig-31 - Mig-25 - Su-27 - Su-33 - F-14 - F-15A/C Medium fighters: Non Anglo: - Mirage III - Mirage 2000 - Viggen - Mig-29 - Mig-23 Anglo: - F-16 - F/A-18 - Tornado ADV - Sea Harrier (eg. FRS2) - F4F Highly Unlikely Aircraft: - M-17 (medium fighter) - Tu-160PP (interceptor) - An-72 (medium strike aircraft) - An-2 (light strike aircraft) - Bich-7 (shouldn't even be in this list) Are there any aircraft missing? Should there be separate polls for Anglo and non-Anglo aircraft? Should we set an end date (to avoid the adulteration that happened with the helicopter poll)?
Avimimus Posted October 29, 2007 Author Posted October 29, 2007 I got to thinking about the potential for nuclear war, of the backup analogue equipment that was expected to be required after delivering a tactical weapon (due to the electro-magnetic pulse) and the sheer horror which our war games dance along the edges of, So: Nuclear weapons: Yes, I want to drop them! Yes, it would be useful but only activated by a script for the ending of a campaign branch (eg. In a failure cutscene). No, nuclear weapons are too serious a subject to be modeled, it would have a desensitising effect. No, but I don't support "sweeping them under the rug" (ie. no for another reason such as FPS hit, Realism). A while ago there was a screenshot taken from the turned out position of a BMP-2...: Ground units: No, ED should never model playable ground units Yes, ED should enable all ground units to be playable with simple fixed sights (an easter egg - just for fun) Yes, but only if they can be modeled accurately Yes, ED should eventually aim to produce a combined arms sim (for example with Hind, BMD and Infantry playable) No, ED should model ships! From (http://forum.digitalcombatsimulator.com/showthread.php?t=195) New theaters (ED should...): - focus on other areas of the engine (no terrain improvements) - Only improve the existing terrain (I want grass!) - Continue to expand the existing terrain to cover more surrounding areas - Europe (Fulda Gap) - Europe (North German Plain) - Europe (Danube River Valley) - Afghanistan (for both the 1980s and 2000s) - Persian Gulf to the Caspian (Iran-Iraq war, Coalition invasion/Gulf wars, scenarios involving Iran, southern Russia etc.) - Korea - Norway Are there theaters missing (eg. Norway, Antarctica)? What European maps would be a good idea? Can you think of better options for the nuclear poll? Finally, are there any polls you would like to suggest.
Eagle Driver Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Korea would be a good theatre also, major hotspot these days. What with Kim-Jong-Mentally-Ill in power. joey45 Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Anglo: - A6 - F-5 - GR.Mk.3 (AV-8A/C equivalent) - Jaguar - AV-8B - Predator UAV Anglo: - F-16 - F/A-18 - Tornado ADV - Sea Harriers - F4F since when was the 16 and 18 anything to do with us.. have you got any idea what Anglo means..? the Jag is Anglo-freanch the Tornado is Brit-french/German and i think Italy was in on it the GRMk3..? is that the Jag GrMK3 or the Harrier cos the Gr7/9 would be better.. GR means Ground Attack Recce to us and on the final note the HARRIER is 100% British The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. Avimimus Posted October 29, 2007 Author Posted October 29, 2007 The American's are a branch of English civilisation (albeit grown giant and gone barbaric on the far side of the ocean). Their language is similar to that which developed in "the angles" and they have a large ancestry that could be classified as "Anglo-Saxon". You will notice that the Sepecat Jaguar appears on both lists (I'll add the Tornado as well). I thought the American's helped fund and develop the AV-8B? Let me know what variant you want to represent the early land based harriers (I like the ones with the tube noses myself...)
joey45 Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 nobody wanted the Harrier until the FLKs war but the USMC... GR7/9 RAF and FRS2 RN for sea. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.
