tapi Posted February 16, 2020 Posted February 16, 2020 (edited) The effect of the reflection of the trees, terrain and objects in the water looks good from close distances but from the longer distances, it causes very annoying shimmering. I tried to change MSAA from 2x to 4x but with only very subtle improvement. The negative impact of the effect is IMHO worse than the benefit. Personally, I would very welcome the possibility to switch the effect ON/OFF in the settings. Edited February 16, 2020 by tapi Smoke me a kipper I'll be back for breakfast! RealDCSpilot Posted February 16, 2020 Posted February 16, 2020 I just found out how to do this. I thought this was controlled by the new SSLR option, but instead it's controlled by the water quality setting. Try medium and the reflections are gone. i9 13900K @5.5GHz, Z790 Gigabyte Aorus Master, RTX4090 Waterforce, 64 GB DDR5 @5600, PSVR2, Pico 4 Ultra, HOTAS & Rudder: all Virpil with Rhino FFB base made by VPforce, DCS: all modules
tapi Posted February 16, 2020 Author Posted February 16, 2020 Well, I tried to set Water to Medium. Reflections are mostly gone but: 1. Water is not as nice as was on high 2. There are artifacts and stright boundaries on the water surface 3. Some reflection on weird places remains See attachments That is why I would prefer the choice to turn off reflections on water set to high. Smoke me a kipper I'll be back for breakfast! Hinkey Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 (edited) Don't know if "Sea Flicker ( sometimes ) - Fixed" in the 2.5.6.43872 patch (2/20/20) was to address this, but lots of issues remain with "Water-High" reflections. The halo in reflections around objects like the canopy bow remains (even the screen edge has its own fringe). From a low angle the reflection near the shore line looks pixelated and has a sort of moire effect with small head movements. Reflections can look blocky and unnatural from a medium distance. Sun reflections still look great and don't exhibit any of these issues. The sim overall is looking very good but these artifacts are distracting (yes I'm aware of "Water-Medium", but that has it's own issues as addressed in previous posts). An option to disable reflections would be great. Edited February 21, 2020 by Hinkey
