Maggot Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 Hello, My Gunfighter mk2, pro extension, MCG pro used to work perfectly but recently I have been getting a weird calibration issue with it. So, quite often when starting for example DCS the roll trim is a bit off to to the right, clearly visible in the vkb joy tester program, so its a calibration issue. If I move the stick all the way to the sides (right and left) it recenters perfectly. I don’t need to re-calibrate it. I can the use it for a while, until it suddenly gets calibrated off to the right again, and I have to repeat the process of moving the stick to full left/right position. Would you gess this is a hardware issue? Springs getting stuck or something? Or a software? I haven’t updated the firmware for... well, ever, since it has been working so well. I have tried to re-calibrate it with the vkb software but it doesn’t change anything. Another question: I’ve been getting a fair amount of crackling noise from the MCG handle itself when pulling the stick. Nothing if I hold onto the extention itself, so this issue is not in the base or base/stick-connection... I don’t really mind as long as it doesn’t eventually break the handle... I use 70- springs for each axis (40+30). Any thoughts?
StandingCow Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 Sounds to me like the dampeners are catching a bit... try backing them all the way off? 5900X - 32 GB 3600 RAM - 1080TI My Twitch Channel ~Moo
Maggot Posted February 29, 2020 Author Posted February 29, 2020 Sounds to me like the dampeners are catching a bit... try backing them all the way off? Thanks for the suggestion, but I don’t think so... Because wouldn’t that make the actual stick to not center? But it does, I can clearly feel the center detent but the calibration is off. Which, when I think about it, would point to a software issue, right? Or the sensors that track stick position? But maybe worth trying though.
dburne Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 If it is not the dampers and the calibration keeps getting off after calibrating with the VKB software, I would try updating the firmware and calibrating again. If that does not do it, then I would suggest contacting VKB support. ams999 Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 Maybe you have a less severe case of this: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=238258 http://forum.vkb-sim.pro/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=3235 Solution if this is the case: unplug and replug the connectors of the X-sensor "[...] because, basically, in this day and age, if you get to the merge and no one's died - it's not good for anybody." - Keith 'Okie' Nance "Nun siegt mal schön!" - Theodor Heuss, September 1958 "Nobody has any intention of building a wall." - Walter Ulbricht, June 1961 "Russia has no plans to invade either Ukraine or any other country." - Vladimir Chizhov, Russia's ambassador to the EU, January 2022
Maggot Posted February 29, 2020 Author Posted February 29, 2020 (edited) Weird calibration issue, software or hardware? Tried with unplugging the axis-connectors in the base, and ended up with this: Then did the same thing again, and now it looks like this: I have now also flashed the firmware, recalibrated etc. No luck... Still only the x-axis right is affected, everything else works. Edited February 29, 2020 by Maggot
ams999 Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 Looks to me like you're best off posting on the VKB forum or contacting VKB support... Maggot Posted March 1, 2020 Author Posted March 1, 2020 Looks to me like you're best off posting on the VKB forum or contacting VKB support... Yes, done... At least the stick is useable with a litte tweaking in the DCS response curve, where I now only use about 60% of the stick range...
WindyTX Posted March 3, 2020 Posted March 3, 2020 As a slightly extreme answer you could buy a mk3 upgrade kit for $39 plus shipping . I bought 1 and the full upgrade kit with cams for $79 the postage was $27 to the US which is way better than it was. I have 2 early GF1s one has a serious Xaxis issue the other is fine but I plan to upgrade both. I have 2 early GF1s one has a serious Xaxis issue the other is fine but I plan to upgrade both. Sent from my HD1925 using Tapatalk I found the problem! As you can see on the picture below the green wire, and to a lesser extent the black, is creeping out of the white plastic... connector-thing. Pushing these back in seems to solve the problem. They are very loose and probably affected by the moving parts in the stick. This would explain how I initially could re-calibrate the stick by moving the stick full left and right. But it means it will probably happen again... I think I’m still under warranty (its 2 years i think?) so maybe VKB can send me a new wire with connectors... or maybe I can glue them in place? I’ll ask support. But glad to have found an easily fixable explanation! Regarding MkIII - I was seriously considering it:) But now I think I’ll wait if support doesn’t recommend it... Do you see any other gains from the upgrade?
