Hi GA,

Vista Ultimate isn't necessarily 64bit....Ultimate can be either 32bit (x86) or 64bit (x64) and so it depends on which disc you used to install. This might be worth a quick check just in case you're trying to install x64 drivers into an x86 system. Not having seen a 32bit install of Vista I believe an easy way to check is whether in C:\ drive you also have a C:\Program Files (x86) as well as a normal C:\ Program Files. Alternatively there's the My Computer tab which'll tell you whether its 32bit or 64bit Vista. I know it sounds ridiculous to check but from your assumption that 'Ultimate' is 64bit makes it sensible to check ;)

Also, 1.5Gb of ram in constant use seems a bit high...and idea via Task Manager what might be using all that memory? Also, what AntiVirus software do you have? Norton, Zone Alarm, Kapersky, Other? Is it active when installing drivers?

That's all I can think of off the top of my head...could you post a screenie of what processes are running (under Task Manager)?

Thanks for the tip.

As you can see in the attached image, it says "64 bit operating system". Then i looked in my "C:\" directory, and i see the folders "Program File" and another one called "Program Files (x86)" ... Does this mean i am actually running Windows Vista 32 bit???

GA,

I have the same Pc config as yours except the motherboard which is ASUS P6T WS Pro and I use Vista Ultimate 64bit too.. To install Nvidia drivers I downloaded the 64bit version which is 180Mb (I didn't run the software installer from Windows at all)

And for Crysis - Right click the exe icon and set compability mode to 32bit.. it should run really nice

Hi GA,

You are running Vista Ultimate 64bit ;) It should have an 'x86' Program Folder as this is where 64bit vista installs 32bit applications!

So, we're sure what OS we have...just need to dig a little deeper I guess to see if we have an competing antivirus/spyware stuff installed...which may be competing with Vista's 'Defender' or Windows Firewall or similar?

As InnerLoop said...I presume you installed the 64bit version of drivers for everything? Gfx, mobo etc?

Brewber.

Well ok... Concerning the drivers... i know my audio card uses vista 64 drivers, as well as my graphics card (downloaded from the nvidia website).

Now for the mobo...im not so sure, since i used the CD that came with it..

How could this corrupt anything? ...vista confuses me.. :P

That all looks entirely normal (I guess you had quite a few web pages open when you took a screenie ;)).

Its only using about 500Mb of memory, which is good.

Hmmm...did you install the x64 nVidia drivers, or the 32bit version...and did you install the drivers with the AV software running?

P.S. Any other issues you're still experiencing, other than Crysis/slow driver install. Is it the same with any install of any software or drivers etc?

Oh, forgot, here's a screen of my current active processes:

I installed the 64 bit drivers for the graphics card.

*edit* and so far, i havent really installed much else... some things seems to install quickly, others a little slower... But i guess this depends on what im actually installing.

Hi GA,

If you right-click on the icon, go to the tab 'Compatibilty' (I think its called, am on my lappy atm) and in there should be a check-box to run in 32-bit mode (or compatibility mode as it might also be called).

If I've got the name of the tab wrong...then flick through whatever tabs are available having right-clicked the shortcut...and you'll stumble across the 'run in 32bit/compatibility' mode ;)

Yes, ive looked through all the "menus", but all i see are old versions of windows and so on, no such thing as "32 bit mode". :(

Yes, following those steps doesnt help, as they show the same features i have and they dont work.

Speaking of Crysis not working on Vista (as it just hangs with a black screen at startup), i was playing GRAW 2 yesterday (Ghost recon advanced warfighter 2) and i worked like a charm. Today i tried it, and now it as well starts hanging during loading of the game. So i cant even access the menu, since it hangs during startup of the .exe. Im doing a reinstall now to see if that would help. Also tried different compatibility modes.

* EDIT* just like i thought... Now i cant play GRAW 2 either. It just hangs during the startup. This is really starting to get on my nerves.

Dont know what to do either.
