FoxTrotAlpha691 Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 Can anyone advise on the proper method to fly the new FAF symbology for landing? I have been experimenting with approach speed/altitude and the degree of bank/g to properly fly the circle and end on the proper glide slope. I have done it 3 times but cannot reproduce my success consistently.
Ramsay Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 The FAF circle's radius is approx 4 km = ~2.5 Nm A Rule of thumb for a 25º-30º bank turn is • Turn Radius = Ground Speed (Nm / min) squared, divided by 10 i.e. 300 kt / 60min = 5 Nm/min ---> (5^2 )/10 = 25/10 = 2.5 Nm radius ... an alternative is • Turn Radius = Ground Speed (knots) / 100 i.e. 250 kt / 100 ---> 2.5 Nm radius I haven't tested how well either work for the Jeff. https://www.pprune.org/tech-log/390973-formula-radius-turn.html#post5229205 i9 9900K @4.8GHz, 64GB DDR4, RTX4070 12GB, 1+2TB NVMe, 6+4TB HD, 4+1TB SSD, Winwing Orion 2 F-15EX Throttle + F-16EX Stick, TPR Pedals, TIR5, Win 11 Pro x64, Odyssey G93SC 5120X1440

I am new to DCS and what you have written is too complicated, thanks again for trying.
FoxTrotAlpha691 Posted March 7, 2020 Author Posted March 7, 2020 see attached Uboats, thank you for replying, please tell me what you are saying with the red arrow, I get how to go around the circle but at what speed and altitude do I enter the pattern and at what bank angle, that is the part I am having trouble with. I am new to DCS and do not understand the symbology by itself.

Try 300 kts, 30º bank and 3,000 ft AGL. A 3º glide slope = 300 ft per nautical mile and the FAF is approx 10 Nm from the airfield, hence the 3,000 ft AGL. i9 9900K @4.8GHz, 64GB DDR4, RTX4070 12GB, 1+2TB NVMe, 6+4TB HD, 4+1TB SSD, Winwing Orion 2 F-15EX Throttle + F-16EX Stick, TPR Pedals, TIR5, Win 11 Pro x64, Odyssey G93SC 5120X1440
