t-stoff Posted March 17, 2020 Posted March 17, 2020 I've been lazy and missed some of trends and must need upgrades, and now after all these years I just bought the F-14 and it stutters a lot. And I think I might be liking the idea of VR. But first things first, I know you guys get these threads everyday, but I don't even know where to start and this corona thing is getting on my nerves. Does this worth an upgrade? THANKS!! Intel Core i7 4770 @ 3.40GHz 8,00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 799MHz ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. The_Nephilim Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 Well if you plan on VR it isUpgrade time, and it really depends on what VR Headset you get to what you will need CPU and GPU wise. is the 4770 a K model?? which SSD's do you have?? you might be able to reuse them all the rest bye.. t-stoff Posted March 18, 2020 Author Posted March 18, 2020 Okey thanks guys! My SSD were bought by the time I built it, so I guess they're outdated also. Maybe I can use the cooling system a Corsair Hydro something. Well, time to save some money. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] "The nation which forgets its defenders will be itself forgotten"
xoxen Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 Hi T-Stoff, in my opinion it is worth to check every option carefully. Some threads below you find a guide to compare FPS in a given mission. My CPU isn´t far away from yours, so you could see what a GTX 1080Ti would do to your system. Additionally you can check your actual bottleneck with e. g. MSI Afterburner. If your GPU shows close to 100% usage, the GPU is the limit. If the CPU shows higher dimensions, its the CPU. My GPU is at 98%, so no need to upgrade the CPU so far. If I look at your system I would say the RAM and the GPU should be changed in the first instance. If you want to save some money first it is always good to have a completely new system. But in the meantime you are stuck to the stutters. At the end you have to decide if you can live with it any longer or want immidiate improvement. Z97-A (SOCKET 1150) 2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 (MSI) I have SSDs a Warthog and TrackIR 5 While you save for a new PC, there is cheap way to improve your DCS performance: as your current rig uses old ddr3 RAM, purchase second hand enough memory to up the pc to 16 GB, it will make a big difference and reduce the stuttering a lot, and the cost shouldn’t be too high. Another item, once you have saved enough money but are not yet at the point of having enough for the whole new PC, purchase the GPU first and put it on your current PC. Even a GTX-1080 would be two generations ahead of your current card and give a pretty good performance on DCS. (Dont sell your current gtx760, as you will need later on, when you sell the whole Pc on the used market. Those two items will make the saving period much more bearable. bigjoe4265 Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 Good advice here, you don't need to spend $3k on a new system. In fact you can build a killer system for less than $1500, not counting VR, that's all over the place price wise. VR isn't quite there yet either unless you are shelling out big bucks for the Valve headset. Go with an AMD Ryzen 8 core or more processor. Pretty much beyond 8 cores on the current generation anyway. That will save a ton of money over Intel. Stick with Nvidia (yes I know their prices suck). I wouldn't go over a 2070 super, that seems to be the sweet spot for 1080P gaming. 4K is still too damn expensive. I would up the RAM to 32GB if you have the budget. I guess it all depends on if you use your PC for more than gaming. Good luck!
t-stoff Posted March 19, 2020 Author Posted March 19, 2020 (edited) Thank you again for all the replies, those are some really nice options for now! I just find it weird that DCS was working fine, getting and out of the game, missions and such and now after getting the F-14 is suddenly really slow (menu wise!) Anyway. Gonna use this isolation time to get some parts and study future investments.:thumbup: UPDATE: bought 16 gb ram and a RTX 2070 Super and I have a "new computer"! First test 120 fps. And then I started to add things and it ran around 70 or 80. But the loading times are almost gone;D Edited March 23, 2020 by t-stoff [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] "The nation which forgets its defenders will be itself forgotten"
