Hi guys, I bought the F/A-18C recently but am not getting the cooling countdown clock for the Maverick 'F' (IR). I press Master Arm On, select A/G, then two clicks on the MFD button. The Mav 'F' comes up, but not the counter clock, and the Mav has a permanent 'X' through it and can't be launched, what am I doing wrong?

If you start in the air, the MAVs should already be ready.

Starting from runway, you have those three minutes to wait before the MAVs can be used.

Please give more details or a short track.

Ok I've made some progress, I've just found out that I have to uncage on the target to lose the 'X', then the Mav F can be launched and will fly at the uncage point.

It apparently self-locks on any random IR source near the uncage point.

My next step will be to find out how to slew it to a specific target and lock it up.

At the moment I can't slew or lock despite trying various key bindings.

The Master Arm switch only has two portions, Safe and Arm. SIM mode is selected from the Stores page and is only available if the switch is set to Safe.

As for the crossed out MAVF, IIRC, the seeker needs to be locked onto something and then the X will go away. I think it represents the fact that you can't currently fire the missile (launch is inhibited if the seeker is not locked to something).

You slew the seeker with TDC Depress+TDC Slew or just TDC Slew, if you uncheck the "Realistic TDC Slew" (or something like that) option in Options > Special > FA-18C. You cannot manually slew the seeker if you have a designated ground target (diamond on the HUD). In the latter case, the seeker will align its field of view with the designation, as soon as it is uncaged and attempt to lock wherever is there.

Which ever of the two displays you get the mav screen on you have to set as the selected sensor using your sensor select switch. I typically have stores on the left screen so when I click the MAV button twice that is where the Mav aiming screen shows up. I sometimes forget to select that screen and nothing will work. It is a known thing that the slew on the TM Warthog throttle doesn't work correctly so I unchecked the 'realistic slew'. Officially you should depress the lock button and slew while holding it down. By unchecking the 'realistic slew' you can slew and then, once centered on your target, push the button to lock. You can also bind any 4 way hat switch to do the slew and any keyboard or stick button to do the lock function. BTW the Caucuses MavF training mission wants you to hit trucks and tanks which show up as tiny white dots. To practice your setup just fly a little past those targets and start taking out any buildings you see. Testing your setup or practicing your skill is a lot easier w/ a decent size target. BTW there is another known problem w/ slewing. Whatever 4 way you use will usually move great on the 'radar attack' screen and suck for the Mav. So I use two different 4 ways. That way I can tune them so they both work fine for their purpose.
