VMFA117_Poko Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 If anyone is interested why the units can not be shown in Mission Editor now (maybe in future with new engine) here is a part of translated russian thread (sorry for possible mistakes - i just put it into the translator):Complexity in that the editor of missions is initially grinded as the cartographical (bidimentional) appendix. And the three-dimensional stage is generated by a simulator by transfer of mission on interpretation (rather long process, know). The tempting offer to use a three-dimensional kind synchronously with process of creation of mission demands radical processing of many internal technical decisions. Theoretically all can be made, but to realize enabled expediently IMHO only on new graphic engine. And it is not necessary to us 3 measured types - reasonably contours of objects;) And how was it made in Flanker? Those models were simplier though... What if in this case putting one of distant LODs? In Flanker just was to the contrary - the three-dimensional type was used as a pseudo-card. In an amicable way, another is necessary both that, and in reasonable limits of realization. I do not doubt, that so it and will be, but I do not know when :) And easier to draw a bidimentional picture for a unit and to push it on a bidimentional card - it is impossible? I join. For example it is possible like now it is done with buildings. As a matter of fact all similar wishes clearly, that only synchronous generation of objects of mission in 3D can become the high-grade decision of a question. All rest is anyhow the crutches only complicating realization and complicating development of the editor. As already it was spoken earlier, synchronous generation of objects of mission in 3D on LockOn a cursor to do it is inexpedient. Thanks EvilBivol-1 for link once more. link: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=5679&page=279 Well, summary. Probably we will see such a feature in the next engine for DCS. When? No one can tell. It is too complicated now and "demands radical processing of many internal technical decisions" (whatever that means). Me, i don't need to see 3d model in editor with great detail level. I'd just like to see the dimmension, overall shape and heading of placed object. That's all.
Shepski Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 We all have been wishing for that Poko... hopefully someday!
Phantom_Mark Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 Im not really understanding this post fully, but can I assume that it basicaly means people are after a ME like IL2 where you can see the units in 3d for easy placement etc, if so that would be super awesome if they can do that in the future :)
Prophet Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 The last quote from Valery is funny. I know its a translation, but it sounds like some quantum physics lecture.
VMFA117_Poko Posted December 19, 2007 Author Posted December 19, 2007 It's my fault. I shouldn't been quoting them... at least with their names 'cuz they could say they never said that. I'd like to remaind i don't know russian, english isn't my native language either. I just put it into translator. I hope You want be angry on me guys :(.
kiss4luna Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 in the year 2001, the first IL2 game have already achieved this goal. Orz............ RTX 3070
