Hello!

After Hornet BFM agressors campaign decided to try Viper in guns only fights with excellent AI opponents. Actually I was not surprised that F-5 is very tough (it took me much time to master beating it on Hornet), but it seems to be an UFO while I’m in Viper. Particularly its ability to keep energy in climb... Actually I can catch very short moments to shoot. Is there any tips to beat F - 5? F 16 or MiG 29 seems more easy opponents to me :pilotfly::joystick:

The BFM campaigns set the AI to excellent, which makes their FMs utter UFOs. Honestly, I feel like there's nothing you can really do other than exploit their stupidity after the merge and go for a miracle snapshot in the first 2-3 turns. After that their magic energy advantage kicks in and your best bet is to fly defensive and go for a stalemate.

AI F5 isn't realistic at all. But I'm never defensive against an F5... lol.

Sure, the F5 will loop endlessly without losing E but he won't ever actually get on your 3/9 line. You aren't doing something right if that is the case.

Turn it in to a vertical fight and make sure you are at minimum ~400 KCAS when you cross from level to climb, and about 250 to 300 KCAS coming over the top. You will gain a few degrees on the F-5 on each loop and eventually get the kill, but it takes a lot of time and fuel.

Thank you, everyone!

Yes, to get F5 on my 6 I have to make a mistake, like loosing sight. And it’s not hard to turn offensive again. I’ve noticed that going vertical at about 400 KCAS is an only opportunity to win good shooting position

Use HMCS and -9x, cash a bunch of energy in and shoot the bandit across the circle. And hope it works :music_whistling:

F-5 is to the F-16 what the F-16 is to the F-15.

Have you tried a max throttle climbing turn at 160kts?

@4:11 here:

Can't believe you guys have more trouble with the F-5 than the MiG-29S.
