wizav Posted April 11, 2020 Posted April 11, 2020 I have a question regarding JSOW: 1. Is it possible to receive LON/LAT GPS data from AWACS or any other recon plane? 2. Is it possible to receive waypoints as targets, they have GPS data as well, am I right? Laser Guided Bombs 3. I am having problems with Release, it's on AUTO, but nothing happens, then I start panicking and spam release weapon then I drop more than 1 combo accidentally like 2 x 2. I usually try to drop 5 sec earlier. I understand I need to hold it a bit.. BUT NOTHING happens.. what's problem? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Tholozor Posted April 11, 2020 Posted April 11, 2020 1. Not natively in DCS. There are scripts that can give you target coordinates from other units, such as CTLD. 2. You can use a waypoint for TOO mode, but you can't receive a waypoint from someone. Down the line there might be something available like that over L16 for linking a designation point between aircraft. 3. Need more info (track would be best). Harker Posted April 11, 2020 Posted April 11, 2020 1. You mean via MIDS? From what I know, it should be possible to receive data from platforms like JSTARs or from other Link 16 participants, but it's not a capability we have in DCS right now. 2. I don't get the second point, waypoints and markpoints have coordinates and these coordinates can certainly be on the location of a target. 3. In AUTO, you press and hold the weapons release button and the bomb will automatically detach once the timer gets to zero and the line crosses. You can't release before the calculated release point. Notso Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 One trick I just learned was if you add a steerpoint in Mission editor that you want to use in TOO mode, make sure to put the steerpoint altitude at 0 feet so it will then give you a true MSL altitude that transfers to the JDAM or JSOW. If you leave it at the aircraft altitude like where you want to be when you spawn in at WP 0, the rest of the points will pick up that altitude as well if you don't manually change it and then your JDAM will think the TGT is somewhere up in the sky. And to re-emphasize: in an AUTO release, as soon as you see the weapon release line start moving down the ASL from the top - press and HOLD the weapon release button until the weapon is released from the jet. And a good technique is to keep holding it for a couple more seconds just to be sure. Especially if release multiple bombs on the same pass. Tholozor Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 Even if you use the ME waypoint method, verify the altitude after startup in the HSI, it may have changed on you.
