Hi,

Following WAGS post - does anyone knows why the GBU32 is different from the 31/38 and expected only next year? Is it only a 3d model? This GBU in particular got different features?

Thanks.

It's the 1,000 lbs JDAM version, a Mk-83 bomb fitted with the INS/GPS kit. I don't know anything particular about it, but I think it has the same fucntionality as the 38/31. My guess is that it's taking a bit longer because the weapon doesn't exist in DCS yet, whereas the 31/38 already did.

Sometime ago a RAZBAM representative said in the Harrier forum that ED is still waiting for some data to correctly model the GBU-32. The AV-8B needs this weapons too, even more so because it can't carry 2000 pound class weapons.

We got the MK83. It's should be pretty much the identical lift/drag constants. The FM/autopilot of the 31/38/whatever jdam - should be the same.

Honestly, I see no particular point in having this weapon. In the game you don't really care about collateral damage or cost. If you need more bombs - take the 38, if you need a big punch - take the 31. While that would be cool that the weapon exist in the game for the sake of realism - I see no actual good use for it... Correct me if i'm wrong.

Also a bit surprised it hasn’t come yet. There’s a 3D model of it already done. See model viewer.

I would have thought the guidance FM/autopilot would be the same as GBU38/31, just tweaked a little for a 1000lb bomb lift/drag.

Maybe it’s a small item to negotiate over for EA in 2020.

No great step up in capability, but a further step towards completeness and immersion. Which is important. Plus they look better double racked on a BRU-55 compared to -38’s.
