BigHairyGobbler Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 I'm curious how everyone finds their way back to their base after a sortie without using the F10 map. Do you set a way point to the base before you fly, use TACAN, use the ATC option and ask for heading or something else? My guarantee: if my first two bombs don't destroy you, the next one's free F-16C | FC3 | Persian Gulf
Darcwaynard Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 I usually use homebase tacan or my first waypoint. txmtb Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 If you are close enough to radio the tower you are inbound, they will give you a heading to fly. Mikeck Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 I set home as my last waypoint. If I’m low on fuel and have to divert, I use Tacan. I write down the tacan freq. for all airbases enroute

regards Posted May 3, 2020 Posted May 3, 2020 i know the theatres to well these days.. Or take a course on using a sextant and stow it in your flightbag:book:
RazorTM Posted May 4, 2020 Posted May 4, 2020 I look outside my cockpit for Polaris, then I start calculating... OK, I'll stop there  I actually don't like how there are very few TACAN stations at the airports, so it's hard to find your way back unless you set up a waypoint. That sucks, too, because in a lot of multiplayer servers, the waypoints are already set up to correspond with specific mission spawn points, and none of them seem to correspond with any of the airports . Not a problem in scripted missions where your last waypoint is the RTB waypoint. Calling ATC for the particular airport and reporting inbound always causes them to assign a vector to the final approach course.
KelGun Posted May 7, 2020 Posted May 7, 2020 IIRC AWACS can give vectors to various places, including homebased.
