  1. Looking for the constant peg mig 21 campaign thread…figured it would be here??
  2. Beauty is in the eye of the person receiving the ordinance
  3. Yep. Playing it now. I usually skip the first mission or two when they are practice or “fly here and then here”. Mission 3 seems odd. 2 minutes after launch to escort a recon flight, I’m told “flight is safe, return to base”. So I flew to the “new base”, landed and that was it. Who knows
  4. It’s out on steam now! Same with constant peg!! In fact, it says “released October 7”?? I bought it but not home to see if maybe it’s early release? Doesn’t look like i
  5. I think it’s any of the GBUs….laser guided or GPS. If you can choose between “instant” snd “delayed”, then you will get the penetration w/delay if you select “delayed” fusing. In other words, it doesn’t have to specifically be a “Penetrator” bomb like a GBU-24. May be limited to 1,000 or 2,000 pound bommbs; don’t know b/c I would drop anything but a 2,000lb bomb on a hardened shelter. So try the GBU-10 or the GBU-31(? Whatever the 2,000lb JDAM is)
  6. The British lost at least 5 tornadoes. 3 in the first three days. Only one to possible enemy aircraft https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1991-01-23-mn-762-story.html?_amp=true here Is a better list. 2 tornados lost attacking same airfield. 3 attacking airfields in general. I wasn’t suggesting the ordinance used made a difference, rather LOW LEVEL delivery of ordinance as executed by Tornado crews (and Most coalition aircraft the first night) http://www.ukserials.com/losses-1991.htm
  7. I think it applies to any with a delayed fuse…not just the GBU-31
  8. If you want fun, use Mk-82 snakeyes. In reality, you would likely get blown out of the sky flying low over the length of an enemy runway in a straight line: which is why no one does that (and why Tornado pilots took such heavy casualties in DS with their runway munitions). Modern Doctrine is to drop 2000lb GBU-31 jdams with a delayed fuse on the taxi-ways. Usually there are 3-4 bottlenecks that all aircraft must pass through coming from parking to any runway.
  9. This is happening to me as well. Losing tracks, icons and everything off of the top bar. Any movement on this?
  10. Hmmm…not so soon and no new updates. Not sure whats causing the delay but I’ve been looking forward to a good quality professional mig 21 campaign for awile. I also haven’t heard anything on the “constant Peg” mig 21 campaign that was also “finished and to be released soon” awile back
  11. I realize the mig 19 and mig 21 are both “red air”, but I find that they are a good match for eachother: the mig 21 having the thrust, climb and speed advantage but the 19 having the advantage in a turning engagement. and in fact, the two have been adversaries in a sense. The Pakistanis used the F-6 Chinese variant of the mig -19 in the 1974 war while the Indians used the mig-21. Can’t advise if they ever went head to head but at least it’s an example.
  12. I’m not sure the NVG picture (and litening pod picture as well) are as good as they should be. I know on Syria and Nevada maps, the ground is black. My only frame of reference are the NVGs I used regularly back in 1998-2002 with the Border Patrol…and those were army surplus from late 80’s. The view was much better than that in the game even with limited ambient light. Point is that I’m not sure it’s as hard to AAR with NVGs in real life I know in the F-18, there I’m is a light somewhere that highlights the basket when it’s close. Did it last night
  13. Ok….any status update? Thought that it would al least be released with Beta Update today….but alas. I REALLY want a good mig-21 campaign
  14. My bet is that the target isn’t actually being detected by your radar. It is likely “donated” by the awacs through your datalink. You can see it on your radar screen b/c the awacs is telling your radar it is there. Until your own radar detects it however, you can’t lock it. Make sure your radar elevation is such that the enemy aircraft is within the beam.
  15. I’ve had it happen twice in the Mirage 2000 red flag campaign. I run open beta and it’s updated. You can open those missions in the editor but- unlike other campaign missions- I can’t save it. So when I try to add whether, it doesn’t take. BUT, it seems just going to the editor, opening, closing and restating did the trick anyway. im more bothered by how the ground is jet balls through NVGs on Nevada and Syria maps….but alas, not a weather thing
  16. Well, tried again today. Left on time, all flights got off, I flew at 250 waiting for all Chevy and the F-15s to catch up until i HAD to speed up or miss the time. Sped to 350 and ALL flights caught up about 15 miles short of WP2 and with 2 minutes to go befor “Rolex”. But I knew there was an issue when i never got the dialogue about “why aren’t we using F-15s”. nope….complete silence all the way. No one checked in as saddled. Chevy 7, 8 and the F-15e flight were all following me around like little ducklings as i circled WP2 watching the minutes tick by. Window was 23:20 to 23:23. By 23:40 (!!!!) I said screw it and went to Wp3 (orbit) still nothing. No dialogue, no “press space bar to do this”. Nothing lasr transmission I heard was God telling me to tune to departure frequency and advise that you are out”. I did so, got the all clear and tuned to “main” on green while leaving red on “vulture” (flight comm). inreally want to enjoy this but I’m clearly doing something wrong. In the alternative, is there any way I can manually activate the triggers so I can play?
  17. I know this was a “known issue” with 2.7 and was going to be fixed….but it is still an issue. At least on Nevada and Syria maps (not sure about PG), flying at night with NVGs is pointless if there isn’t a full moon. The ground is black with only city lights showing up. could be on my end but I don’t know what I would be doing wrong. I don’t have a track file but if it was a known bug before….has it been fixed?
  18. Edit. same issue as reported here: BUT…I followed orders exact. Took off right after F-16s. Kept 250-300 knots all the way to WP2 all 3 times. first run: I got to WP2 2 minutes early where I then flew in circles for 10 minutes. Nothing. I noticed a lot of traffic at the base still but figured I’d try agai Second run: same. This time I checked at the base and saw “banshee flight was stacked up on the taxi behind “Chevy 8-1” which was disabled with a missing nose cone: hit something obviously. Likely same thing that caused nothing to happen first time final run: MOST FRUSTRATING. I head to WP2 while keeping an eye on base traffic. This time, all flights get off without damage. BUT, by the time Banshee gets airborne, I’m already at WP2 3 minutes early. (Even if I flew slower…banshee can’t get off the ground and to their WP quickly enough). I CANT contact Sunray until I give briefing. But I don’t have the option to brief until all flights call in “saddled. Eventually, Chevy 8 or Banshee called in “saddled” and I was able to brief. After, I was able to call Sunray- who promptly told me that I was late and had failed the mission. Indeed, it was 23:26…3 minutes past the window. I can’t contact Sunray until I brief, and I can’t brief until the right flights get to where THEY need to be….and I’m taking off when I’m supposed to. how does everyone complete this mission of base traffic is such that the flights DONT get to their “saddled” areas until it’s too late??? what am I doing wrong???
  19. Yeah….the F-4 is in a dream stage. We WILL be getting the A-7 here shortly; hardly a fighter but at least a solid gen-3 aircraft for cold war servers. would love the F-8. High performance, carrier capable and a very competent fighter. Perfect for a 1959-1969 era scenario and a contemporary of both the mig-17 and mig-19 (although the former not in frontline Soviet Serb is at that point). Also, single seat. I like the F-14 but it’s just not the same as doing it all yourself. frankly, I don’t care which one. I just want a gen2-3 bluefor fighter besides the F-5; the fighter equivalent of the Chrysler “K” car
  20. Unfortunately, the answer to “reasonable opponent” for the Mig-19 is the same as it is for the Mig-21….and the upcoming Mig-17: the f-5. And that is a travesty. Ultra modern aircraft like the JF-17 and Eurofighter Typhoon are aircraft to be sure. But as they are 21st century airframes with modern equipment, not only are much of the capabilities of the equipment classified, but the performance of the frame as well. why- instead- can we not get completely accurate models of incredibly interesting and capable blue for combat fighter aircraft of the 2nd/3rd generation to match up again the mig 17, 19 and 21? The F-8 crusader, F-100 SuperSaber, Super Mystere, Mirage III and the F-4 Phantom would all be great. instead, I’m flying a (quite well done) mod of an A-4 if I want to fly a bluefor fighter in a 1955-75 time frame since I always feel like I’m flying a training aircraft in the F-5
  21. 70m is pretty high for a helo (considering how high it’s RCS, how slow it moves and how low it CAN fly. You should be at tree-top or below. So maybe 10-20 meters. in the end, the radar can see you unless there is a hill between you and it….70m or not. DCS does not model the curvature of the earth so there is no horizon
