Hi, :D

As I have seen on many screenshots and movies, in Lock ON 1.1 we will have the possibility to use the Submunition Dispenser (Su-25T).

Yesterday I was wondering whether it would be possible to create a Tornado MW-1 Submunition Dispenser, which is based on the Su-25T Submunition Dispenser.

The external model of the MW-1 has been existing since Lock ON 1.0. But however we couldn’t use the MW-1 because the little bomblets weren’t modelled / programmed.

As in the Addon these bomblets are modelled it should theoretically be possible to create a fully functional MW-1 Submunition Dispenser.

It would be really great, if that worked. :D

I agree with you, having flown a LockOn Tornado with an MW-1 which wasn't working (it was just the 3d model hung under the belly)

I don't know if the devs are working at this thing too, but I think there could be a problem because the MW-1 submunitions are rockets fired to cover a pre-set area, they aren't dumb bomblets as those dropped by the Su-25T. Same thing holds true for the Jp-233 used by British Tornadoes.

Are you sure, that the MW-1 submunitions are rockets?

The MW-1 can carry 5 different types of submunition. But every type is some kind of bomb.

For example can you use the "STABO" submunitions to destroy runways. The "MIFF" submunitions are mines, which can destroy unarmored groundtargets. The "MUSPA" submunition is used to lay minefields and the "MUSA" and "KB 44" submunitions are little bomblets.

Fully loaded the MW-1 can carry up to 4.6 tonnes of bomblets. :)

Any answers of the devs? :D

I love the tornado, I live next to RAF Lossiemouth which is home to 4 squadrons of them, beautiful to watch them come into land over the moray firth :)

Sorry, I didn't explain my thoughts very well.

They are bomblets but they are not dropped in a ballistic way, they are fired horizontally to cover a pre-set area, they are spread over a precise pattern. They really aren't rockets (it would make no sense to lauch a rocket that way!!!!) but they are bomblets fired like rockets, so their path is not so straightforward to implement. But it's up to the devs to tell if it can be done in some future.

Furthermore, it would make no sense to implement the MW-1 without fully rewriting the attack profiles used by AI pilots. Have you ever tried a runway attack mission with some bomb (free fall or CBUs)? The AI aircraft pop up long before the runway, they deploy speed brakes and at an extremely slow speed they set up their attack against a runway. I think this is absolutely the opposite of what happens in real procedures. Aicraft in antirunway missions come in extremely low fast, from multiple directions if the target has many runways, drop their weapons and run away. Just one single pass, and possibly at full speed.

Is they can review the path system to have the 1attackWP/1pass we discussed earlier, it could be possible... but I understood it probably wouldn't be developped for the 1.1.

Yep.. That's right.

But I would also be happy if we got a MW-1, which has only basic features. That means if you trigger the MW-1, the bomblets fly just a bit to the sides of the Tornado, as you can see in the picture above.

I think that should be possible :D

I think it would be cool to add on as well as a new attack profile for the AI when doing airfield denial. How about F-16s dropping durandels? The only problem is that they are in fact rockets. So it would be a bit harder to make.

The Durandals could stand some improvement, though. Mostly in the size and shape of the hole they make...

Also, it'd be absolutely brilliant if someone with 3d modelling skills redid the F-111 model...

Guys

We'll thinking about MW-1, but not for 1.1. Probably for 1.2

It's very interesting ammunition. :)

I never new durandels were in the game, right next time on HL I'll give it a go. lol I love the FOD modeling in this game.

You've got to use LOPE to put them on your plane, which rules out using them online. They're just one of those weapons that's in the game, but that can't be put on any aircraft by default.

Funny that its there but I have to use LOPE to fit them. Starting to remind me of Tekken, gotta beat everyone up to unlock the secret characters. Thanks for that.

cheers
