Bearfoot Posted May 1, 2020 Posted May 1, 2020 So, I am missing something here After landing, I open the emergency wing handle cover, pull the handle back to 68 deg, wait, and then pull up the handle toggle and pull it back to its maximum position. The wings indeed go into max oversweep mode. That's good. Now, I cannot seem to push the handle down again in this position. And because I cannot do this, I cannot close the handle cover. The only way I can push the handle down is by moving it back to the 68 deg position, but then, even if I bring the handle back to its minimum position the wings are no longer in oversweep. The handle seems to need to be in the up position to put and keep the wings in oversweep, but in that position I cannot close the cover. What am I doing wrong?

Per the manual, are you doing everything in the second paragraph for sure? http://www.heatblur.se/F-14Manual/general.html#id2 Oversweep The emergency wing-sweep handle is also used to select the oversweep position of the wings. The oversweep is only used while on the ground to reduce the wing span to make it easier to spot the aircraft on the carrier deck. As the wing will sweep over the stabilizers on the tail the horizontal tail authority system is enabled to prevent the wings and stabilizers from damaging each other by restricting movement of the stabilizer. To set the wings to oversweep the emergency wing-sweep handle should be moved to the 68° position and held in the extended position. This will deflate the wing-seal airbags and activate the horizontal tail authority system, indicated by the HZ TAIL AUTH caution light illuminating. When the HZ TAIL AUTH caution light goes out and the OVER flag on the wing-sweep indicator appears the oversweep interlocks are free and the handle can now be moved to the 75° position and stowed. To move the wings out of oversweep the handle is pulled up and moved forwards of 68°. This will again illuminate the HZ TAIL AUTH caution light. When the wings have physically exited the oversweep the caution light and the OVER flag will turn off. As with normal emergency mode operation the handle should now be set to the same position as the spider detent and the MASTER RESET button depressed. Punk [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Bearfoot Posted May 1, 2020 Author Posted May 1, 2020 I think so, but TBH, I'm not sure. I've been trying follow the official HB manual: http://www.heatblur.se/F-14Manual/procedures.html If wings are not in oversweep, move the wing-sweep emergency handle to 68° in raised position. Then raise handle to full extension and hold until HZ TAIL AUTH caution light goes out and OVER flag appears on wing-sweep indicator. Move handle to full aft OV SW and stow. But this seems to imply a two-step raise. First you raise handle and move to 68 deg, then raise again and wait. I can only get the handle to raise (one step) or deptress. And furthermore, it also implies that you can stow the handle from the second raised position, but this does not seem to be the case. In the instruction you posted, it says "When the HZ TAIL AUTH caution light goes out and the OVER flag on the wing-sweep indicator appears the oversweep interlocks are free and the handle can now be moved to the 75° position and stowed." To move to the 75 deg position, the handle has to be raised, correct? What exactly do you do to stow it then? Just close the cover? Depress the handle? If so, how? Is there a video showing this done?
Bearfoot Posted May 1, 2020 Author Posted May 1, 2020 Update: followed the above procedure, and same results. The only way I can get the wings to go to oversweep position is by having the handle raised. However, with the handle raised I cannot close the cover. And I cannot seem to depress the handle while keeping the wings in oversweep. I have to move the handle forward to the 68 deg position to depress the handle, and this brings the wings out of oversweep. I can actually move the handle all the way back while depressed, but this does not oversweep the wings agtain.
r4y30n Posted May 1, 2020 Posted May 1, 2020 I've had the same issue since release, just never bothered to troubleshoot. It's like the spider detent can't move further aft than 68.
Bearfoot Posted May 1, 2020 Author Posted May 1, 2020 Ah, is this a bug, then? At least, in so far as not behaving as per documentation and/or actual aircraft?
Spiceman Posted May 3, 2020 Posted May 3, 2020 I see the same thing. It might be way down on a bug list somewhere and just hasn’t been addressed. Dentedend10 Posted June 13, 2021 Posted June 13, 2021 I am having the same issue in VR with controllers. I get the oversweep flag indication. But then I cannot move the lever to the 75 degree position. Furthermore, I cannot stow the handle when it's at the position where the oversweep flag comes on. So then I move it further ahead to be able to stow it, at which point the oversweep indicator disappears. I guess it's not fixed yet. Hector45 Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 I have the same issue. Though I can get the wings to oversweep with cover down. After you have wings in oversweep position, move the lever forward of oversweep just enough so you can push it down then pull back to oversweep again. ( Have to be quick) Obviously it's not the way it's supposed to work but those of you OCD like me and want your cockpit fully tidied up after shutdown, it works.
