So this is hardware but relating to VR so 50/50 as to which forum to put this in.

So my Rift is plugged in permanently to an Intel USB 3 port on the rear I/O connection on my Motherboard. My 2 sensors are respectively connected to a USB 3 and a USB 2 as specified by the Oculus set up. My problem is the Rift cannot make up its mind, sometimes it shows it is connected to USB 2 and sometimes USB 3. No big deal, except now I am getting a warning in Oculus home, telling me "USB 3 connection recommended". So why can't the Rift understand it is connected to a USB 3 all the time.

I thought it could be power management by having too many USB things plugged in, but it does it whether I have 6 things or 10 things plugged in to USB ports.

As I said no big deal as it still works, but we are going back to the OCD thread and the fact I do not like warnings on my Rig.

Just ignore . I had spurious warnings on mine (updating Fresco drivers) before getting the S . Even now i get bs warnings that my headset audio is off (I want it off) or that it can't find the controllers (don't use them)

I do find it a little strange that your cameras are connected to 2 .0 and 3.0 usb ports though .

I have been looking on the oculus forums and it seems like the headset showing as USB 2 whilst being connected to USB 3 has been a problem for 4+ years.

I fired up the PC earlier and again the Rift showed it was connected to USB 2, so I unplugged it, then plugged it back into the same port and it came up as USB 3. Maybe the age of my motherboard, I have no idea.

Svsmokey, I am positive the Oculus instructions said to do the sensors this way, do you mean they should be both in USB 3 ?

I was running the CV1 and cameras on the recommended Innatek card , and all 4 usb's were the same if i remember correctly .

I think they were all usb 3.0 . Maybe the camera recommendation was either/or rather than 1 of each .

Oculus kept telling me to update the Fresco drivers for the Innatek , but they always showed up to date .

Unless I am misreading the above in bold, both sensors should be plugged into USB 3 Ports.

You read it correctly Don, last March (2019) I think I bought the Rift, and I am certain it said the 2 sensors should be : 1 in USB 3 and 1 in USB 2. I tried connecting both into USB 3 ports and one sensor wouldn't work unless it was in a USB2.

After reading your post I now have 2 sensors and the headset all in Intel USB 3 ports and all 3 are working. The headset still says USB 2 connection sometimes and USB 3 connection other times but I should be upgrading soon when the Intel 10th gen come out, but new tech equates to new headaches, so it should be fun, see how many Bios updates are needed before the new Motherboards work.

Just did a re-setup of my Rift and what an idiot, I misread the setup instructions, if you have more than 2 sensors one will have to go into a USB 2 port. So I must have taken this to mean the Headset and 2 sensors equalling 3. So now I have set it up with all 3 in USB 3 ports, so see how it goes.

Yeah I would only use USB 3 for those sensors.
