I had read that at the moment we could not collide with the trees, then that if, in the end I am not quite clear whether the aircraft can and weapons colliding with trees, and if it affects the vision of the enemies (besides ours of course).

Thanks and sorry for my english.

It is hoped (by ED) that they will have a new engine ready when the A-10 tank killer edition of DCS is released. Until then trees will remain as they are currently.

That duss kind of suck. So we can fly right thru thim at this point? I still want to know if the Trees that are there will hide us from the AI ground forces and raidar? If not we will be at a big disadvantage not being able to see thim but they can see us. Guss we got to make our routs for hills insted of trees/both. :cry:

Radar waves

If you're hovering right below the tree tops, chances are the enemy will be able to pick you (specifically, your rotor head) up on their radars in Real Life. Radar does not behave like laser, which requires direct line of sight - radar can actually bend around corners to some extent.

UPDATE:

If you're interested in the technical intricacies of radar propagation over terrain, this paper illustrates the concept quite well, although this is of course by no means the only factor determining radar detection:

So correct me if I am wrong, but I think the answer you were looking for was trees are nothing more than a visual being. They do not react to weapon or aircraft contact with or through them. Aircraft/Ground sensors can also see right through them.

What a real raidar does means nothing to me whin I am flying in the game I would like to know hot it works in game... As we all know some game have glitches that can be exploited to gain a advantge over the oposing team/side.

True. I was only putting things into perspective. I'm guessing one of the reasons there will be no radars modeled in any of the as yet planned flyable aircraft is that the DCS team wants to put some work into modeling radar capabilities realistically. If that happens, you can still look forward to an enemy who knows where you are when you're hovering just below their line-of-sight horizon.

No hiding that rotor

but i guess on the radar it would not be distinguishable from more trees.

You would indeed, the reason being those two very significant Doppler sidebands created by your rotor head (and blades, if they're not made of a radar-suppressing composite). Anything that moves with any significant speed, relative to the ground, will stand out.

That is within reason, of course. It totally depends on the amount and density of the obstruction.

Radar, by its very nature has that limitation. If you are completely blocked then radar won't detect you.

The blade flash signature in a radar return is enhanced and used to detect and classify helicopter targets. Its not a magic see through obstruction ability.

As evident in my original reply to CAT_101st, I agree completely. :)

In old LO versions collision was possible. You need to turn on this option in TreesTable.sht by inserting a new value "collidable = true"

TreesTable

{

default

{

vis = 1;

shadow= "";

load = { false, false};

fire = { 0, 1};

username = "";

classname = "lObject";

positioning = "BY_XZ";

//-------------------------------------

collidable = true;

//-------------------------------------

}
