How to use Jester to tune in TACAN for locating Stennis Carrier?

I want to locate position of stennis carrier. by using jester menu and TACAN. And then I want this to be displayed in HSD and VDI. How do I do this?

I tried "AN/ARC182" then "Tune TAC" then "Stennis". But instead of the stennis I always seem to get a TACAN signal from a far away airport thats about 40 nm away. What am I missing here?

I goto navigation tacan tune select the stennis.

For it to show on the vdi and not the manual compass (which you should check - it shouldntbhe sending you to some airport)

Nect all you do is select landing mode and click the next button after the sterrpoint button

There es a row of buttons left to right. They deal with nav options. The 2nd is steerpoint and the most commonly used. If u hit the button after that itll turn it on TACAN and your normal compass rose that shows steerpoints will become a TACAN thing. Id also add that maybe it doesnt work in the VDI unless you select data link to the carrier too.

However the manual compass will work alone. Maybe not VDI but you can have jester tune to that and steer off that and get range. Tbh the TACAN dial can be more accurate than your waypoints with a carrier sometimes - especially if youre low on fuel ignore the BRA calls they give you for inbound and fly straught where the TACAN points. That way you can land ASAP

Which TUNE do you mean? TUNE GROUND STATION? Or TUNE TACAN? With TUNE GROUND STATION I get the TACANs for all the airports on the map, and with TUNE TACAN I get nothing to choose at all.

Ok I go to Navigation, then TACAN Radio, and which one next? With Tune Ground Stations I only get the codes for the airports. When I go to TUNE TACAN I can only click "OK". Where is the damn stennis??

Ok, found my mistake, had forgot to activate TACAN for the stennis in the mission editor…

This is so stupid, but thanks anyway!

Nav>tacan (radio)>tune tac (radio)>tankers, awacs and carrier should shkw.

Underneath your pilots radio dials you have your tacan right clicked 2x righr? So its vertical at T/R?

Jester makes it so easy. Had the bug hit where the human RIO logs out and had no RIO. Jester wouldn't answer... so had to figure out how to tune Tacan and the radios from the pilot seat. Probably looked at the kneeboard 20 times, but eventually got it. lol

To practice RIO, I have some training flights with cold start, long navigation waypoints and then hop to back seat and practice radar modes on friendlies on waypoints and circuits. Then I do a mock intercept back at pilot and maybe aerial refuel before RTB and landing.
