Not comparable really as it was a private contract ED was paid for, they just made it a public module afterwards.

Trainers can carry weapons... Otherwise how would you train...

And I do recall reading at some point there were at least 2 on the Kuz with weapons for evaluation at least.

Does a dev personally own a Su-25UTG?

i dont think deka personally owns a jeff, yet we have it.

what im saying is the lack of weapons isnt a valid consideration as to why a plane cant be brought into the sim

doesnt matter how or why a model was made in dcs, the fact is we have unarmed aircraft. so what if this variant of the su-25 was a test bed, a trainer, or unarmed. its an existing airframe in the sim that wouldnt take much work to adapt it so that people who want to recreate those test flights have the ability to do so.

dont like it? dont fly it, its that simple

frankly, i dont care either way. i just dont see the objections to it being particularly valid or consistent with the planes we already have

i have a whole bunch of images & info on the SU-25UTGs from two of Yefim Gordon's books on the su-25

im not sure if its shareable on forum to upload pics of pages out of a book, so i wont but suffice to say, it could be an interesting model to add. It could be a segment to an interesting campaign along the lines of the kursant campaign. Start out with basic flying & gunnery in the l-39, progress to the su-25utg for flights off the land based carrier mockup, then onto su-25utg flights to&from the Kuznetsov, finally progressing to su-33 as a fully qualified newly trained Russian naval aviator.

the soviet navy had about 50 su-25s. 5 UTGs were retained by Ukraine during the breakup, yet at least 2-3 of those were returned to Russia, still wearing Ukrainian insignia

I would agree if it wasn’t a lot of work, but ED has been very “do it super detailed and high fidelity or not at all.” And while of course there is a lot of existing infrastructure, it would still require a not so minor amount of 3D and texturing and the code to make to make it work.

I think it would be great to have, we already have a T, but it could never make money for them. It would be great as a free plane, make it multi crew, I guess I’m just very sceptical about future Kuznetsov asset development

I agree with you there. The airframe has potential, but wont likely ever see the light of day

Yeah, the ugly truth is that Soviet naval aviation, or really most nations aside from the US is pretty "marginal". The French maybe... Older UK stuff would probably sell too but capability wise you are never gonna have red v blue in a post ww2 carrier battle aside from maybe China Vs US in 20 years. The Kuz air wing was mainly designed around providing fleet air cover, not toting around a strike group.
