I'm still getting some strange behaviours from the X52 when I'm assigning keys in DCS.

First I'm using the little thumbwheel for zoom, its programmed to spit out '/' and '*' on x-axis. Works fine.

Next I'm assigning the little mouse button as a modifier to use along with some of the fire buttons.

Doesnt work.

Yet when I go into Joystick > properties and keep the window open on screen, the modifier button assignment now works, but the thumbstick zoom does not. Why is this?

If you use normal key press command in the programmer, you're doing just that, key press. Not letting it go. So this works fine for mapping to a button. You press a button, key will be pressed, if you let go the button, key will be let go.

But if you map normal key press to a rotary or slider, there's no letting go on these unless you move them out of position. So these rotary are constantly pressing the / or * button. So next time you do another command such as Alt+Enter to fire weapon, you're actually doing Alt+/+Enter. Because / is constantly pressed.

You have to use Advanced command on rotary and sliders to program release.

Alternatively, you can assign Zoom View to the rotary in the game. From Assign Axis option. This is usually better option.

Trouble is the pots on the x52 are so poor they are useless as zooms as they jitter all the time, causing the screen to judder in and out. I get a really nice smooth zoom with the mouse thumbstick.

Maybe my post was not clear, In DCS i'm assigning the little mousebutton to be a modifier, and im using the thumbstick as a zoom. THe mousebutton (its button 31 on my x52) ony seems to register in DCS when the joystick properties box is open, but then the thumbstick will not work. With the properties box closed, the thumbstick works fine in game.
