When I first heard the new carrier comms, I thought they were saying "fuel state" and the writing was off, but actually they do say "low state", just as written in the top left corner. But that's not always the case, often it's just "state". What's the condition here? I thought it might be a certain level below which it's called "low state", but I've seen "low state 7.7" as well as "state 5.4", so that theory clearly is out. I'd really like to know the difference, it might be of some importance...

I believe "state" is the pilots speaking state of fuel, However when checking in with Mother a flight lead will report the lowest fuel state of his flight, ie his wingman. So his fuel state might be 5.8 but the jet in his flight with the least fuel is 5.4, so hewould report"Hornet 4 Low state 5.4."

So the condition for the "low state" message to be triggered instead of the "state" message is that the flight consists of more than one aircraft?

After watching the Stingers' video, I pretty much think it's just that as well now, they went in two ships, had "holding hands with [modex]" in the line as well as "low state" whereas it's just "state" for those who're flying alone.

You guys nailed it. When in formation, pass the fuel state of the aircraft lowest in fuel. That is with the words “low state.”
